    Condo sound proofing ...

:) I didn't realize how soft that soundboard was I had to secure the drywall to the studs.

    Condo sound proofing ...

I ended up working on the second upstairs bedroom since it is the quitest I felt it would have the best chance for success. I used a layer of styrofoam sheeting on top of the existing drywall then a layer of soundboard sheeting, another layer of styrofoam and finish layer of 5/8" drywall...

Given the fact that the wall is more or less already decoupled what are some of the assemblies and are there any charts to compare results I could view? MLV, GG and RC are outside of the budget.

    Condo sound proofing ...

I understand but I am going to address the wall first. The sound may have been reduced by 15-20% and I have not reinstalled the ceramic tile yet which may have some benefit. The bathroom was the louder of the two rooms and is now about the same as the Master Bedroom before it sounded like the...

Yes there was a noticeable improvement immediately as would be expected. The sound was dampened a little. How much was due to the GG and how much was do to the drywall is of question but some of the low frequency noise was improved to the point it was not detectable by my ear which may be the...

The common wall is a staggered double 2x4 so isn't it already decoupled?

    Condo sound proofing ...

Yes initially but when you look at the GreenGlue charts at their website the difference (in most all cases with & without GG) is about 5-10 dBs. It seems to me it would be more benificial and less costly to apply more layers of materials. An added difference of only 5-10 dBs is not what I was...

    Condo sound proofing ...

It's been over 30 days and the intial improvement I saw is all I achieved with the greenglue. It is all I am going to do in the bathroom for now with the limited space, So I am thinking about using a layer of styrofoam sheeting on top of the existing drywall (working on the Master Room...

    Popcorn ceiling 'fix'

You'll find that the pump sprayer ineffective, you really need to saturate it. One possible problem would be if the popcorn has been painted already that would prevent it from readily absorbing the water.

    Popcorn ceiling 'fix'

Take a garden hose and spray a fair amount of water on the popcorn texture will almost literally fall off on its own ... Then use a large drywall blade or puddy knife to strip.

I contacted Green Glue today and was told the following: "When first installed the GG is still a liquid, and therefore it is doing nothing to reduce the noise. Right now you're only getting the benefit of the added drywall, which is about 20% of the overall benefit you get with GG and...

    Condo sound proofing ...

I hung the drywall in the master bathroom today and results were minimal and hardly worth the time and effort. Maybe it will improve some after the GG sets up, kind of doubt it though ??? Anyway I guess I need to start looking at some other soundproofing methods besides the green glue ...

    Condo sound proofing ...

Right, not on the framing only worried about maintaining a gap between the two sheet of drywall at the humped area. I was able to get it sucked in a bit with some long drywall screws. Was only asking about sag when it is being applied on a sheet of drywall that is standing vertical (prior to...

    Condo sound proofing ...

Was thinking of pre-coating (running a bead) on the hump in the drywall between the second layer of drywall to help maintain the required gap. I would think if the GG set up a bit ( just a bead or so) that it might prevent contact at that point. Will the GG sag much in vertical application?

    Condo sound proofing ...

Would blown in insulation or spray foam help for that location? Also I have warped stud in the wall (creating a hump) that I am wondering if that would create a contact point with the drywall. Should I precoat that area with Green Glue and allow it to set up a bit? Is it ok to apply the...
