    stinky floors?

Well, I just spent $1000 to refinish them lol so I would not want to do that. Do you think if I clean them with a good cleaner like vinegar and then wax them that the wax may give a protective coating and help cover the smell? then just keep up on the waxing? ....Not sure how thick wax is...

Thanks Joe, so you are saying if I do anything do the bathroom and kitchen 1st? More return for the money? I know the parts are cheap but I do not know how to do these things. Also, for the bathroom tile....can I re-tile OVER old tile?

    drywall problem

Sounds like you had someone do a bad job on the drywall. Sorry :( Get thick molding because the cracks may get bigger over time. This may be somthing that over the years may need to be redone....sorry. But thick molding will look nice and last a long time.

wet spot on ceiling in kitchen

Yes, it is the plumbing. If it was the roof you would notice wet spots upstairs in the bathroom. Follow Joe caption's advice. If you do not fix this soon it can become a HUGE problem. When it is fixed, scrape any paint or water spot peelings off the kitchen ceiling, prime with KILLS so the...

    remove texture or replace drywall?

What is your time worth? For me I am a single mom, full time student and full time employee. A task like this would kill me. This will take you a very very long time and be so much work that it may not be worth it. It will cost more to drywall but you have to decide what your time is worth

    Using used insulation

Advice that could save you thousands? DONT SKIMP ON THE RIGHT INSULLATION! This could actually lessen the years of your roof! I just put on a new roof. They have a new type of roof that is more efficient and vents from the top. But this meant I needed new insullation.....a certain type to...

    New Furnace and Moisture Problem

I have an old house too. Make sure like the other person said it is not CO2!!! If it is simply moisture which I experienced, the only thing I found that helped was a dehumidifier. You dont even have to get an expensive one. I got one for like $25 and it works for the whole house! It's great!

Have to use oil enamel paint on interior wood doors?

my dog actually peed on my doors. Of course this made them smell. Got an answer.....no stripping necessary. Use KILLS or BIN as your primer and paint your color over that. Takes all smells away. Even pee! Another thing you can do right before hand is to take a spray bottle with 1/2 white...

    stinky floors?

Bought an old house with STINKY non-cleanable 50 year old carpet. Ripped it out and found hardwood floors! Got them refinished and of course for about 2 weeks had that strong varnish odor. I vented my house by leaving windows open and fans on in the summer. It was gone. The whole reason I...

    Mice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lawnmowers

I had this problem and thought the solution sounded crazy but it works! And greatest of all is non-toxic to us!! Take a small flat bowl or plate with lip around it.....ao they can get in it but not "fall" in it or they will be scared to go by it or try to get in. Put some block cheese in...

    Do it or forget it?

I bought a home for $45,000 in St. Paul, MN a year ago. Keep in mind while that sounds like a great price this is a MAJOR fixer upper. A little about the house: Built in 1917 – OLD! I live on a great street. But the surrounding neighborhood is not somewhere you would want to live forever...

    Old-House Smell

Ok, this is going to take some work but I know just the solution. Buy a pet product called anti icky poo. It is hard to find so buy it on the internet. Take a towel and wash the walls with it. Then wash the floors with it. You may have to do this several times - maybe 2 or 3 (but it works I...
