    flooring delemma

I decided to go with 5/8" AC plywood (it is 19/32" so it should be close enough for gov work!) and I won't be worrying about putting down twice as many panels. I still have not decided which type of flooring to use. Has anyone out there heard of the new vinyl that does not require gluing...

    flooring delemma

When I remove the particle board I will need something (Advantech or plywood, etc) that will replace the particle board and be 21/32" thick or just a tad thinner (hopefully 19/32") Plus it will need to be smooth on one side in case we decide on linoleum.

    flooring delemma

This house is not worth spending too much money on the flooring. When we moved into this house in 2004 we had the old linoleum replaced with NEW linoleum and I served us well. I need something that will stand up to sand and grit from the grand-kids. I will get some quotes on different types...

    LVL Span question

I bit the bullet and hired an engineer to plan out the beam. I will be installing 4 LVL 12" high. I need to wait until the weather warms up before starting again.

    flooring delemma

I am currently remodeling our kitchen. Our house is wood frame with a basement and two floors above that was built in 1978. The kitchen is on the main floor with the basement below. The original floors had 21/32" plywood as a sub floor--then 21/32" particle board on top of that--then sheet...

    LVL Span question

I asked for info from the local lumber yard that I use and he didn't want to give advice and he told me that the place that makes the LVL's would not help either (he has tried asking them in the past). I have located an engineer the may be able to come up what something--I will post his...

    LVL Span question

Please excuse my ignorance but are you saying that if I want to span 17 feet then I would need to go with a 14" wide LVL instead of three 9-1/4" LVL's bolted to the existing 2x10? Another question---when you recommend the 14" LVL is that one 14" LVL or three 14" LVL's bolted to the...

    LVL Span question

Ok then! 14" it is! I have taken some pictures in hope that some things may be made a little clearer. They may change the outcome--maybe not--but I thought that I would give it a try! My thought is that the joists that are supporting the second floor are 2x10's--10 feet long over the...

    LVL Span question

I assume that you meant 14 feet?

    LVL Span question

I am doing some remodeling that will require the installation of a LVL beam that will span 17 feet and support the second floor of the house. I was planning too bolt three 9-1/4" LVL's next to the existing 2x10 that is about 13 feet. I know that everyone will need more information in order to...
