    Gutter problems

Hi Dustin, I am just seeing this message, so you've probably gotten it taken care of already. Usually, if the gutters are overflowing how you've described, there's something blocking the downspout outlet. Debris from trees can migrate from the other side of the house, and it only takes a leaf or...

Separating gutter facia board from wall (interior leak)

We specialize in installing half round gutters with that type of gutter bracket. Those are fascia mount brackets that project out from the fascia board 5/8". We usually install a flashing at the roofline to ensure the rainwater flows from the roof into the gutter and not behind it. It's possible...

    Gutter slopes the wrong way

I would either re-hang the gutter so it's sloped properly, or add a second downspout. To add the second spout, cut a new hole, insert the new outlet, apply sealant, install the new spout. You can also just drill a hole and let the water drain out, like the above post recommended, but I think...

Post a Picture of your Latest Project

Another day, another copper :D This photo is from a project completed by me (Guttersmiths) and is located in Madison, WI, USA. Completed late-Fall 2022. More photos here. In addition to the architectural sheet metal work, I make wall art and furniture with copper that I've applied a patina...

Copper/Metal Roofing/Gutter Installers in New York City?

I know I'm late on this, but here's what I can add: Give B&B Sheet Metal, in Long Island City, Queens a call. They are a top supplier in the area for architectural copper products. They should have some go-to contractors that they send referrals to. We do this type of work at Guttersmiths. I'm...

Drip Edge Material and Fascia Construction

I would remove the 1x2" if you're ever thinking of installing gutters. We have ways of working around them as gutter guys, but I think you get a sturdier install of gutters without that trim board in place. I've always thought that 1x2 is meant as a decorative trim board, to give a little more...

Gutter Guy and Exteriors Contractor - Hope I can help out.

Thanks Alex! I think I'll try to see if there's an alert I can set up for certain topics, like "gutters" and "copper." John

Gutter Guy and Exteriors Contractor - Hope I can help out.

I think that adding a short gutter with an elbow coming off of the bottom that ties into your existing downspout would be the most effective way to manage the water in that area. The Rain Handler option, or installing a diverter up there, would only provide a limited amout of control of the...

Gutter Guy and Exteriors Contractor - Hope I can help out.

Hey Jeff, Do you have pics of the area in question? We've been called to replace Rain Handler with actual gutters a couple of times over the last nine years. So, I have limited experience with that product, but the experience I've had has been negative. Why not install gutter and downspout...

Just had gutters installed...should I complain about this?

See photo for how we install our outlets. I'll try to grab a photo example of aluminum trim covering the gap. We just had that done on a site last year.

How can the contractor charge this lower price?

It would be difficult for me to complete a roof tearoff for $200/square and pay all of my men an actual paycheck with payroll taxes, AND earn a profit. I'd ask for this roofer's number so I could sub him out, but I doubt his guys are properly insured. Lawsuits waiting to happen....

Just had gutters installed...should I complain about this?

I know this thread is old, but just joined and figured I would chime in. It's hard to see from the photos but it looks like the fascia is angled. If it is there would be a gap on the bottom. I can't tell from the photos if roof straps were used to fasten the gutter to the home, but it looks like...

    Do I need a gutter?

Even without a gutter or diverter, there should not be water getting inside. A new gutter will probably help and may be cheaper than resetting the door. Do you see water damage on the wall? It's possible that the fasteners holding the diverter in place on the roof are allowing water in.
