    Front porch... Foyer?

Thanks for the site. I obviously have to make some trusses and this will help with that if not the whole project.

    Front porch... Foyer?

Thanks Glennjanie. The 2x6's are a nailer so the jack rafters won't be nailed to the sheathing if a rafter falls in between two trusses. We have to be concerned about wind and up lift. I still don't know how to figure the angle I cut the 2x6's so they meet at the top. It will form an up side...

    Front porch... Foyer?

The front of our house is pretty plain so I want to add to the roof by adding a front porch. It is going to be a 4 to 12 pitch gable end and it will be all open. Two small square columns to hold up the front. My first question. Because it is open and not enclosed does this make it a foyer...

    homemade vanity?

I have built some cabinets but I have a wood working shop with a jointer, a planer ,router, many clamps... ect. You could do it with some hand tools but when you said ( don't get mad. I'm just trying to point you in the right direction) you would build a frame out of 2x4's and cover it with...

    Views on level vs. parallel

I think in your case level would look wrong. In fact it would look un level. You would be better off parallel which would look level even though it wasn't. I hope I said that right.

    sprinkler pump over heats

I replaced the seals in a goulds 1hp sprinkler pump. It will pull water but the motor quickly overheats and then it shuts down. It runs very quiet unlike my jet pump that seems to work fine but makes a lot of noise. Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be?

What should I do with my floors?

I wouldn't spot treat. I've done some wood finishing and you will be able to tell the area you spot treated. Its best to sand the whole thing down. For 600 sq ft I would even buy a small dust collector to use with the sander if I couldn't rent one. It will make you a lot happier.

    Are screws of for framing?

Seems like it would talk a lot of extra time. If your only putting in a few studs it wouldn't matter but the more you frame the more time you would waist unless you have a hard time putting in a nail. I have used screws and a kreg pocket screw kit to put nailers between studs and that...

    sprinkler pump question

I have a one hp Goulds sprinkler pump. Can I hook it up to a pressure switch, without a bladder, so it will turn on as a sprinkler valve or a faucet valve opens? I want to use it for sprinklers and other outside pre softener faucets at the same time.

    jet pump noise

I have a 3/4 hp jet pump filling a tank and another (the same kind) filling a pressure bladder from the first tank. The one that fills the tank is very very loud but it is pumping fine. I just hooked it up but its not new. What could be the source of the noise?

    Grass clippings for garden

When I was a kid I knew an old timer that grew vegetables and he would collect clippings from neighbors and bury large amounts of them in the ground a few months before he would plant in the same spot. I have used clippings for mulch in my organic veg garden many times. If they are put on...

    Hello from the treasure coast;

Hi; My name is Keith and I am on the east coast of florida. I bought a total dump a few years ago and have been working on it ever since. I've made a lot of improvements and still have a long way to go. I hope I can help others as much as they can help me. I love talking about home improvement.
