Since you are getting ready to put it on teh market i would get some composite or some of that plastic wood stuff and replace the whole casing. That way it willl look more uniform and i can gurantee at least one of the people looking at it will see the patch and then go "yeah right, then...
Thanks for the advice Glenn. We have a City inspector tha thas come out and said you have to do this this and this before oct. 30. Then he's going to come back out and make sure that it's done and inspect the other work.
We have a general contractor working on what he can, then farming out the...
Yeah... the city won't let us do anything that involves a load bearing support on the soutside of the house (that kills the porch) and we arent' allowed to do the siding because of the waste disposal stuff that they have in effect (asbestos hazard and such, along with lead paint and the...
I'll be keeping a Photo Journal in my Gallery of the outside work being done on the house. Here's a short list of what's to come:
- All the old wood siding, window and door casings and trim work will be torn off and replaced by concrete siding (we are keeping the dental work up top)
-...
Hi doug!
We have a house built in 1925 that the owners did a similar thing to and removed a wall that NEEDS to be there. There are trusses in the attic (from what we can tell... but who knows with those people) but the ceiling is still beginning to show signs of falling in (see my gallery)...
OK.... we had some storms yesterday and while i was sitting in the living room we took a lightning strike. All the power in the house went out ang when it came back on (a couple seconds later) i smelled something burning. Went to check the breaker box, and there were a couple breakers...
Well.... worse has come to worse on the outside of the house:mad: ... we had to call in the pros on this one:( . The porch is condemnable (Spelling??) and we have to get the wood stuff ripped off the side of the house cuz it's rotted and (go figure) has no insulation  between that and the...
The I-Beam is already there... what we are looking at doing is putting the main support pillars against the wall, and on the outer egse of each bookcase, leaving aobut 5 or 6 feet between them. There will also be a ceiling support thing running the width of the room at that spot. Eventaully...
The Room is 13 feet across by 31 feet long (rough estiamte from buying border). The Steel I-Beam that runs under the house goes from the proch under the entire living/dining room under the kitchen and into the foundation in the back..... how long my house is i am not sure......
The house next door to us is a bad case of buyers remorse, and then so was my mom's brand new house that she had built in 1995.
What I would suggest is report the realtor to the local BBB and what ever Realty Assoc. you have. Then, get a termite person out to treat the house whether you have...
LOL... I cna see what you are saying. We alrady have a pre-existing Steel I-Beam that runs the length of the house down the middle... would this be adequate enough??
Ok.. now that we have some of the other issues worked out and being worked on... What would be closer to 1925??? A bookcase that is about 3 feet tall with pillars above it for a room divider.... or put the wall back in that was once there???

Thanks for all the replies. There is what looks like another layer of T and G under the floor, I will try and get pics of it where i can. Otherwise, what do you all think of Concrete siding and what is it??
The baseboard in teh picture was done with cheap something... it's on all the woodwork...
