1-800 GOT JUNK is a rip off

The thing to know is that they charge by volume. The more you break stuff down, the cheaper it will be. They won't tell you this unless you ask how they charge.

    Ungrounded dimmer

There's no ground wire in the box. It is (was, I had to break it out and intall a box big enough for the dimmer) an old Bakelite box. One NMC coming in had a white and black, the other a black, a white and a red. The whites were connected, the blacks connected with a pigtail that went to the...

    Ungrounded dimmer

Yes, this dimmer is compatible with LED and needs no neutral. Thanks. Neil

    Ungrounded dimmer

I found the answer in the NEC, 404.9(B), exception 1. It's okay if it's a replacement switch.

    Ungrounded dimmer

I want to install a dimmer on a new LED light fixture. The dimmer has a ground wire, and this circuit is not grounded. Can/should I still use the dimmer and put a wire nut on the ground wire? I can install a GFCI on this circuit if that would help. Thanks, Neil

Using wire mold to extend ungrounded circuit

Thank you Bud, that's very helpful. I didn't realize that if I put a GFCI on the source of the Wiremold that it would be code compliant. It wasn't clear from the other poster that's what was meant. I don't want another ungrounded outlet, I just want it to be safe.

Using wire mold to extend ungrounded circuit

Does anyone have an answer that is helpful? It would be much appreciated.

Using wire mold to extend ungrounded circuit

No, I'm asking if I'm interpreting it correctly, that is, it's kosher to do what I want to do.

Using wire mold to extend ungrounded circuit

Yes, I already implied that I read the standard. (1) I'd be extending an old NMC circuit, not grounded. (2) The run will be much less than 25 feet. (3) I'll use non-metallic raceway. (4) It will be mostly behind a bed and not in a traffic area.

Using wire mold to extend ungrounded circuit

Can someone verify that NEC 250.86 allows the use of raceway (Wiremold) to extend an ungrounded circuit up to 25 feet? I only want to extend a circuit a few feet to get plugs out from behind some furniture. Thanks for you help. Neil

    Soffits

I would hope that boxing in eaves doesn't mean a code upgrade for what's been there since 1953. I'm not even sure if a 1 foot high space qualifies as an "attic".

    Soffits

Thanks, I hadn't thought about the foundation vents. Have those too. Looks like there's a trip to city hall to find out about all this.

    Soffits

The roof is flat, with the minimum allowable slope. Very typical for the area and time when it was built. The front half of the house has exposed beams and T&G roof deck, and the back of the house has drywall ceiling. So, the attic space is very shallow, with a few vents on the back of the...

    Soffits

I'm not sure how that applies to this situation. I can't change the existing vents. All I can do is provide adequate vents in the soffits, if that's what you mean. I'm asking if I need vents in the soffits where there are no attic vents. Only the back half of the house has attic space, so there...

    Soffits

I want to fire-harden my house a bit. One thing everyone says to do is box in open eaves. My roof is almost flat with a slight rise toward the back. The only place there are vents to an attic space are on the back of the house. The question is, should I install soffit vents all the way around...
