what nail to use on face nailed floor

I just wanted to reply with the results since the replies I received were helpful. I used the 16 guage FN head nails and the oak held tight to the subfloor. In fact they hold better than the #3 finish nails used in the 50's.

what nail to use on face nailed floor

Would a 16 ga FN style nail hold this 5/16 oak enough? I have a porter cable 16 ga finish nailer. I thought I might need a larger nail head like a DA style. I'm doing a 40 sq ft hallway that wasn't done when the house was built in 1958. Just trying to match the rest of the bedroom...

    two small floor joist

The glue is a great idea. I plan on using a couple of jacks to ease the joists back level or as far as I can without additional damage. The plumbing will be dropped below the joist. I'm waiting on my hvac guy but since I'm replacing the furnace I'm thinking go with a high efficency and...

    breaker in the panelposition

When did the nec begin to require 240 breakers be located in the top of the panel with the 110 at the bottom. I assume its to place the larger amp breakers nearer the power "in" cables. Thanks Stuart

Removing drain assembly in shower stall

Many of these pvc shower drains come with some type of key to screw it together. By key I mean a piece of metal that fits in a slot or between protrusions within the drain that you then use channel locks to turn and unscrew. They usually get tossed after a few years as no one remembers what it...

    improper whirlpool tub install

I'm trying to repair the seam between a whirlpool tube and the cultured marble wall. I think the floor joist under the tub were not spaced correctly for a large fiberglass whirlpool tub. I'm guessing that with about 20 gals of water ( 160 lbs ) and an adult male ( 210 lbs ) is adding so much...

is putting supply lines in an outside wall against plumbing code or just poor common sense. Have a condo with water lines in an outside wall but within the attic space on the 1st floor condo. They are only covered but about 2 inches of insulation. They have frozen and burst, much to the...

Anyone experienced in Florida homes ?

I'm wondering what can of worms are opened in stripping the drywall out of a house in Sarasota county florida. Specifically at what point you open yourself up to building code upgrades. I know the current standards are more stringent than in the past few decades. I'm going to check with the...

how many brick courses in a day

I looked at a 5 year old home that had vinyl windows and could see where the bottom of the window was bowed or bucked from the crush of the brick. How many rows of brick can be layed before you have to let them set and dry. It seems builders ( or masons ) brick to many rows. I have seen othe...

    Dryer Vent Debacle

I think the register boot is the way to go. I do maintenance on several four plexs that have long pipe runs to the outside. I used a store bought vent brush on a 3/8 plumbing snake to clean them every six months. I just attach it with small hose clamps. It seems that tenants never empty...

    lets talk shop vacs

I've used an old craftsman with the $15.00 cartridge filter for about 20 years. I have to blow out the filter with compressed air whenever I empty the tank. The darn thing still works well but the universal motor is very loud. After helping my brother finish his basement and using his shop...
