    Plaster, what is it?

PS. This house was leveled following a wildfire recently. The house had a metal roof and was made of adobe. I kept the grass 2" long for 50' around the house, all winter but we had a fire with winds of 50mph and it was like a blowtorch. My wooden house survived but this one, toast...

    Plaster, what is it?

You know that stuff is very very solid. I can walk between the ceiling joists on the mesh with its plaster, and I am 200lbs. Of course I do all I can to avoid this, but it is extremely durable. After a couple weeks up there, you are bound to slip off a joist or two...no damage.

    Plaster, what is it?

wow, thanks for the detail. Ps the entire ceiling is mesh - I can see it from the attic. The few places in the walls I have checked are chicken wire!

    Plaster, what is it?

I have to repair some interior plaster walls - its about 1-2" thick and pressed into a wire mesh. What should I buy? The defects range from 6-12" diameter.

    Dealing with toxins

I should have explained, I am renovating this ancient house. It has a popcorn ceiling and paint layers could be 60+ years old.

    Attaching drywall to plastered ceiling

I guess I will try to smooth it other ways first or change the lighting. I wonder if I can put the drywall right overtop the popcorn, or will it depress too much where the screws are? Who tests for asbestos? Anywhere in the US is fine.

    Attaching drywall to plastered ceiling

The plaster is on a steel mesh, no lathe. The mesh is attached to the joists, probably with some sort of u-nail. It is about 1" thick. In some areas you can see where repairs were done,...or a wall had been moved. I can imagine immense labor trying to replaster these areas and resanding...

    Attaching drywall to plastered ceiling

Is there an established method to affix drywall to a previously plastered ceiling?

    Dealing with toxins

I am refurbing a 100 year old house. I am concerned about the presence of lead and asbestos (are there others?). More from a resale value standpoint. Probably the only way to tell what is on, or in those plastered walls and popcorn coated ceilings is testing. (who does, how much $ ?)...

    Range wiring

Sorry to abscond without following up til now. I have ripped out this cable, and a good many others in this old house. For this range I have installed a new 4-conductor copper cable - three awg6 conductors (red, blk, wht neutral) and one awg10 ground wire. Two 50A ganged breakers...

    Range wiring

I am looking at the supply to the stove/range (typical stovetop with broiler/oven below) in this old house and want to make sure they did it properly. I see a #10 ground, two #6 hots, and a #10 neutral, off a double pole 50A breaker. All wires copper, run <50'. Did they do it correctly...
