Bricking a house that already has siding

I've been told we need a "freeze board" for the masons to run the brick behind going up to the soffitt. Would this product work in lieu of the "freeze board" and bed molding etc?

Tear out of the masonite will be extremely labor intensive too though. Either way will not be pleasant.

No it's not the only choice per say, but I hate stucco, and I want something PERMANENT. Hardi board would be permanent, but it seems like a heck of a lot of work also, and I'll still have to paint...
