    Installing a roof cap without a tail-piece

I've got a 10" roof cap that I need to install but it does have a tail piece to put down the hole to attach my duct work to for my range hood. I was wondering if it was intended to have the duct work extend up threw the roof into the cap? I'm just trying to make sure i'm on the right track.

Sorry if that was a dumb question I've never put in a variable speed switch and since it wasn't labeled I figured I would ask instead of potiential burning it up, trying to figure it out. Thanks again, Darius.

I've got this switch to run my kitchen exhaust. Looking at the diagram I couldn't out how to wire it. I've included a copy of the diagram. If anyone can help, i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Darius. http://www.ventingdirect.com/mediabase/specifications/99041769.pdf
