    Caulk removal?

I got the thing apart - I used some of the small wooden shims like a wedge to allow my knife blade to get inside the crack to cut the caulk. I am now in the process of cleaning up the remnants of the caulk, and it turns out that wd-40 works real well. I would have never thought that. Rodney

    Caulk removal?

The plumber installed my new 2 piece shower. Only problem, the base and the walls are not anywhere near flush, which will be a huge problem for the shower surround. So, I'd like the remove the base from the wall unit, but it's silicone caulked at the bottom (like it should be). So what...

Old wooden doors - how well insulated?

Thanks for the replies! My wife wants a new door. My dad says that the old door is a good one. I am up in the air. Tru_blue hit the nail on the head. I'd rather not toss the old door just cause it's old, but I want something that is energy efficient, and air tight. I know the old one needs...

Old wooden doors - how well insulated?

That tip about the hinges is a good one. I know that the door has 2 different kinds of hinges, and I figured that was the problem, but I will also look to see if the screws are pulling out of the wood. Thanks! Rodney

Old wooden doors - how well insulated?

My house has an entry door that either needs a ton of weatherstriping, or replacement. I sorta like the door - it's old, solid wood, and about 1 3/4 thick. It has a big single pane window in it, about 2ft by 3ft. I also have a storm door mounted on that opening, and there is about 2 ft...

    2ft thick stone wall removal

Stuart - Thanks for the picture! I was imagining a metal rod when you said a needle. I'm not certain how much hidden space I have in the ceiling, but for a 6x4 and a prop, I might have to disturb the 2nd floor. Definately more to think about. Rodney

    2ft thick stone wall removal

I am certain that they are not full width. Probably nicer looking ones on the sides that were 'seen' years ago, and smaller stuff on the inside. This is all held together with horse hair and mud, if it's like anything else around here. Right now they are covered up with drywall and wainscoat...

The trick behind caulk in a shower?

The caulk pulls away from the shower walls. Could be moisture behind the walls, maybe I did not let enough time between caulk jobs. I did let a few days for it to cure. I think the pure silicone might be a good idea. Rodney

The trick behind caulk in a shower?

I'm about to pull out my hair. The other year I installed a shower surround and base. Naturally I had to caulk all of the panels once it was all on the walls and such. I have been having trouble getting the caulk to last more than a few months where the walls meet the base of the shower...

    2ft thick stone wall removal

I have an old farmhouse, and I'd like to remove a section of wall. The wall is made of stone - I have no idea of the quality of the stone, I just know it's about 2 ft thick. Years ago a small addition was added to the house, and that addition was made into a kitchen, and it joined the rest of...

    Failing caulk in the shower?

I don't know the brand or if it was 100% silicone, or some sort of variant. That tube is long gone. The surround walls were applied to fresh greenboard, I assume they were some sort of plastic, as is the base. When I peeled off the 1st batch of caulk, all of it came off, and when I peeled...

    Failing caulk in the shower?

I installed a shower a few months back, and it had panels that glue onto the walls, and then all the seams got a caulk - I used a kitchen and bath. That caulk failed a few weeks back - I had water all over. So I removed all of it, and waited a week and put in new kitchen and bath adhesive...

Tiles in the bathroom around corners?

Thanks, I appreciate the post! The ECK-K profile is the one that I need. The demolished side (where the old tiles were ripped off the wall) is not 100% straight - some of the tiles have a nick out of them, so I need something that will cover the edge. None of the imperfections are more than...

Tiles in the bathroom around corners?

I had an old tub/shower and the walls were tiled, with plastic tiles. There was one outside corner, and it had a special tile that went around that corner, and overlapped the other tiles by one inch (each side was one inch, and then a 90*) The tiles were getting loose, the grout was extremley...

    Allure brand flooring?

I was at home depot, and I saw something they have called allure. It's a 12by 36 inch piece. When pieces are put in place, they bond to each other, but do NOT bond to the floor. Once down they can be moved within a couple minutes, but after that..... forget it. To secrue it around the...

    back flow prevention?

We have a washing machine right next to a sink, several feet in the drain line away. The problem is that when the washer dumps the water, it comes into the sink line. Same thing from the kitchen sink on the next floor up. Everything has the same drain line, it just just t's to go to wherever...

    Sink doesn't fit?

I went and returned the sink. This was at Lowe's. I then walked to the area where they were at, and the guy told me that none fit right. They only had one, so I took it along, even though he told me that it was "gauranteed to not fit right." Well, I got it home, and it fits right in with...

    Sink doesn't fit?

I amde the hole a little larger, and the sink moves side to side, and front and back, but will not go down. I sat it upside down on a pile of drywall, and it rocks. Does this mean that I have to try for another one? How bad is too bad? The counter top does have a small sag in it (like you...

    Sink doesn't fit?

I cut the hole in my counter top, and I placed the sink in the hole, and it sits high on the one side. I looked for something that is holding it up, and found nothing. Heck the part that is 'up' isn't even against the counter top. I'd guess that I have about 1/4 inch gap between the bottom of...

    Basement cement walls?

OK, I see what you're saying. The right way to do things would be to drain all the water around the house. I know that I won't get to that for sure this year. What if I would build my bathroom in that area and put some sort of paint on the walls? Something that would look decent, hide...
