    Sump Pump Question

A little confused, but most times a sump is in place for a reason, and the pump sits, there for years if need, just in case. So, as far as a not so permanent installation, you want to just pump some water from the pit when you feel like it, without say a permanent drain pipe or pump in place...

    I lifted my house BUT

.......gave me a good chuckle this moring....anyway, I agree with Glen, I would get the straight/square side down and use whatever method is best to push/pull the other side to square and drop it down.Depending on access and a keen operator, a person can lean a large old tire against the one...

    base molding for round corners

Hey Donna, As far as round base corners, usually you can buy the rounded part seperate, and continue the straight runs after that with longer pieces. Just do a search for "round base moulding corners", and you can get some ideas what's out there. Hope this helps a little.

    Stuck Deck Door

Hello bigw, First, I would not be keen on "grease" since it can be a real magnet for dirt, debris, making a bigger mess. There should be an adjustment on the ends of the door at the bottom, for height adjustment. Just turn the screw, slightly, say 1 turn, and see if it helps or worsens the...

    Bad honeywell valve?

Sent you a PM, Blueforester.I ended up calling a dealer about 400 miles away, since he knows it won't hurt his business locally sharing info so far away and got the contact numbers. I know the valve came from Tennessee I think it was, not 100% if it was Heil/Tempstar, or Honeywell, but will try...

    Bad honeywell valve?

When the fan is running, such as it does before firing up, gently give the wires a wiggle/bump, going into the control valve. The Heil furnaces (not sure all the models, but same basic units) had this issue a few years ago, and it was the main tiny circuit board in the control valve, where the...

What about nailing sheets of chloroplast underneath, with a slight slope for draining? It comes in several clour options, large sizes (less seams) relativley cheap and quite durable.

    Dry-Lok question

Make sure you clean the efflorescence as mentioned on the label etc. Mainly, follow cans directions and you should have no issues. As far as framing, just make sure you leave some room, say at least a 1/2" min close to any pipes/ducts, to prevent any vibration or rattling sounds, say when the...

no water heater/summer winter hookup ?

Not trying to stray too far from the main topic, but here is a great link, if interested, regarding demand water heating. http://www.eere.energy.gov/consumer/your_home/water_heating/index.cfm/mytopic=12820 There are many great opinions and ideas on this and many subjects, but one also has...

no water heater/summer winter hookup ?

It's a water coil inside the boiler/heater, so your boiler/heater must run year round for hot water.I think I would look into a hot water tank, should be simple to install, just a few connections to replace or install.

Shelves shelves shelves (and more shelves)

Hi, 50.... gal! As far as having any of the metal cut down, or rivets "welded" back in place, try finding a local welding shop or metal fab shop. Most welding shops will have the tools like "chop saws" to cut metal tube, pipe, plate...whatever, and can tack weld anything back in place, if need...

    hardwood floor refinishing

I sanded them, with an orbital buff pad sander (rectangular soft scrubbing pad material and sanding sheets adhere to pad). Starting with 36 grit, then 60, 80 100.I had some areas through the varathane and down to bare wood, so needed to make sure it was levelled out good. I spoke with some...

Is DIY TV a lot of hype?

I personally have a problem with all the so called DIY shows popping up all the time now.I find this old house way out of line as being a DIY show. I think maybe it's what it say, "This old House", just a show about renovating older, maybe more classic, houses. But we're talking high end budgets...

    Snow on my dish.

K2...not sure if you an eliptical dish or not, but you can buy a cover that stops snow from gathering on the surface, without screwing up the signal. It seems strange, but are you losing your signal from snow gathering on it, or just the snow coming down, weakening the signal? Up here in...

knob and tube wiring info wanted.

Thanks guys for the input. I talked with the local electrical inspector the other day, and from our conversation, he is very comfortable with my thoughts and plans. Since it has a newer service, and basically fishing anything new in will be pretty simple because the basement has suspended...

knob and tube wiring info wanted.

Hello people! I recently bought an old house built in 1932, in a remote old goldmining town. The place is solid, fully livable and has many upgrades such as new plumbing and some electrical. I have a 100 amp service, put in about 10 years ago, and some new wiring such as range, fridge, dryer...
