I did not know this existed...

Wow! I didn't know this existed either! Great link, by the way! I just wonder if it's cost effective though? Maybe wood decks are still so popular since they're cheaper? Does anyone know?

    Codes for building a deck

Well, I know for sure that if your house is part of an HOA (yuck, hate those), you have to get permission to add anything onto your house that might make it too different from the other houses in the community! My deck wasn't attached to the house, so I didn't clear it with anyone! LOL

    Thinking about a new Deck

And there is always the option of doing it yourself! That is what I did, and the only help I had was from my mother! Yes, my mother! LOL...I found the plans online and then bought everything I needed at Lowes (such a great store)! Took about a week and then I had a great deck at the fraction...

Which Stain Brand should I use?

I definitely didn't paint my deck, especially it being a pool deck. Staining seems to work the best...especially a waterseal stain, which also protects the wood. I think it's Thompson's waterseal or something like that? Paint does just end up peeling, which looks worse than anything else.

    Deck Design Ideas

Oh yeah, pool decks are great! That's the one I built. I actually had to change the design from a 4 foot pool to a 3 foot pool and made the actual deck smaller. Boy, was that a chore! But look at this one? Isn't that beautiful? http://www.deckplans.com/decksoftheyear/2004/2004_DOY_01.html...

    When Is Deck Maintenance Necessary?

This site has some good information: http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/ho_maint/article/0,2037,DIY_13948_2268480,00.html Try to avoid using pressure washers, which can damage the wood...and avoid bleach (at least for the first few years). You should do some maintenance once a year, like sealers...

    Pressure Treated?

I used pressure treated wood on my deck. Didn't have any problems with it and don't know why they would have changed it. Can't imagine the expense of having to upgrade your deck to any changes though! Here is another site that gives you info on the subject, if you want to read up...

    Termites...

Yes, 5 years isn't quite old enough for the wood to be degraded. It could very well be termites, or it could be a species of ant that eats wood (carpenter). I had that problem in my house (luckily not in my deck). I did call Terminix to treat the house. Not sure if they would treat a deck as...

    Deck Furniture

Yeah, I always used either plastic or aluminum furniture on my deck. Never had wood though! LOL...probably too expensive! Never actually thought that any particular kind was better than any other! Smooth bottoms are probably the best thing to keep in mind though, so it won't dig grooves in...

    Piles with Dek Blocks?

It might be possible that those 6 views thought they might be able to help but couldn't? I know that when I made my deck, I only used anchors. They made the deck as stable as a house. I personally am not familiar with dek blocks, so I can't help you...but if you're really that lost, stick with...
