    Contractor scams!

I was watching the news last night and people were getting ripped off by contractors left and right. I was wondering if someone could give me some tips on how to AVOID these scams. I know how to tell if a contrator is a professional, just dont know about the getting ripped off part.

What is the best way to keep that wood look natural?

Deckman, you do know they have stain that is the color of "natural wood" right? Stuff works great! My buddy JJ used it on his deck and I never even knew untill I dropped somthing and you could tell it had a coat of somthing over it. Maybe you should give that a try.

I did not know this existed...

+1 har. The metallic decks dont bring that "country" smell wood decks do. I feel more like a redneck with wood on my deck.

    What fasteners do you use?

I have used Tiger Claws fasteners on 2 of my decks. It makes it shine and I have a nail free deck. Keeps me from having to worry about rusty nails making my deck look old and rotten.

    Thinking about a new Deck

I have a trick that helps me out when choosing a contractor. I simply check out some of his "old" work. I check to see how he did and if the "structure" is still in good standing. This will let you know if he does a good job. Seeing some of his work might be a good idea. Another quick...

What are some steps I should take before I go ahead with the stain process. Anything that could change the outcome of the deck? I want to make sure this is going to be my final deck. I have been through 3 decks so far. 2 of them I built myself and 1 came with the house. Just trying to get...

    Can I get some hints?

This is what I have come up. Very basic steps to proper maintaing your deck. 1. Sweep it like its your kitchen. 1-2 days a week is fine 2. Scrub Your Deck 1-2 times a year. 3-4 if you have more time. 3. If you do have a rotting deck board, it's best to try to chisel it out with a wood...

Which Deck Has The Least Amount of Maitenance?

Vinyl decks seem to be the best in your case. They are one of the lowest maitnance decks out there. You could go with composite as well. I just think vinyl is a better way. Just my .02!:D

How often should I repaint my deck?

I cant really recommend you to paint such and such times. Just make sure you get good quality paint. When you see it starting to "peel" or scratch it might be time for another coat. Painting a couple coats should help as well.

    How Big Is Your Deck?

    I live in Florida.

Western Red Cedar is VERY durable. Should be a good wood for your deck. The great part about using the wood is that its extremely easy to cut. Should be able to get a smoothe edge.
