    Invasive, data collecting, evil monopoly

I just tried to log into my google account. Put email, password - as I've done for years. Captcha - three times, got a green checkmark. They emailed a 'verification code'. Got that. Then they want a phone number to text a 'verification code'. No! This is obvious invasive, sinister data...

    Snag in replacing aerator

I took my single handle Delta faucet aerator out, soaked it in vinegar for a day and put it back. Somewhat better. but still some crud on the screen. So I bought a brand spankin' new 15/16 male threaded aerator - which looks identical to the original. I can't get either one back in at all. This...

    Replacing faucet seats and cartridg

I managed to get out the springs and seats for a Delta faucet. Do the new ones just sit in there; do the seats have to be buried in the recess like the old ones? There seems to be an extra part that goes on the side of the Cold water cartridge. Some of the youtube vids casually mention it...

Lights dimming, going out at random

Every 10 days or so my lights get very dim, then go off completely. This is with very little load - no heaters, appliances, etc. No idea what this is.

    Impeller or Agitator washer

I just saw two articles right next to each other: "Agitator top load washers are far superior to impeller models". "Impeller models are far superior to agitator ones". So I stopped the debate. Ended up getting an impeller machine. I had previously circled clothes carefully around the agitator...

    Light keeps going out

An LED bulb in a 3 bulb fixture lasted about 2 months. I replaced it, and a few weeks later it started flickering and then went very dim, then out completely. I replaced it again today with a brand new bulb and after two hours it started flickering and going very dim. What could this be?

    Clearing drain

I have a tar paper line from the house to septic; it's probably broken somewhere and I have to dismantle a deck before I can access it. So for now, I figured I'd snake the drain from the tub which is closest. I was planning on going through the tub drain, but I see everywhere plumbers taking the...

Figure height of support for sloped roof

I'm making a shed for my generator Using 2x2s, I made bottom frame, cut four posts at 10 degree angle which are verticle supports. I need to figure new height of two posts to support roof. This is quick sketch. I painted and sealed all members and connected bottom structure with strong ties, so...

    Ants in rocks

I loaded a 20 gallon container with rocks that I pulled from the soil in my yard, washed them, and noticed thousands of ants and these white things that look like tiny grains of rice that most definitely were not there before. Anyone know what this is?

    Clean, caulk tub surround

I've had some mold in a few areas around the bathtub for months. I tried industrial cleaner, vinegar, baking soda, alcohol, pumice stone, Magic Eraser and then finally Clorox Clean Up w bleach. The next day, there wasn't a trace of it. Now I see some cracks in those areas. I was going to just...

    Ceiling light not working

I have a flush mount ceiling light that I put a pull chain switch in. Been working for years, and now stopped after working intermittently recently. I tested the pull chain switch with an ohmeter and it fluctuated wildly between .9 and 4.8. It then seemed to settle down on .9...maybe I had a...

    rain collar on roof vent

I have two vent pipes on my roof. They measure 1 7/8 inches in diameter. The sizes we have at the hardware store here are 1 1/2"-1 3/4" and 2". How do I do this?

    Clogged septic outlet

Toilet plugs up every once in awhile. Today it overflowed. I went outside to look in the cleanout from the house before it enters the septic system while the tub was running full blast. Just a little trickle for about two minutes, and then something seemed to clear - nothing visible; water...

    Stove burners not working correctly

I have a Tappan Millennia stove. The two front burners are not working right. They are difficult to start and don't reach full flame anymore. The low and high settings are basically the same and there's no graduation of the flame as I turn the dial. The power burner won't even boil water. The...

    Sump pump repairable?

I"ve had a Simer 1/2 hp cast iron submersible sump pump for about 6 years. I noticed about 3 years ago it wasn't working. I didn't have time to mess with it until now. It stopped working I think within the warranty period, but that's up now. It hasn't been in any heavy duty use since I've had...

    Saturated crawl space

I have a 900 sq ft crawl space I went in after all the heavy rains. Fiberglass insulation on the 'ceiling' was dripping, saturated. It's extremely muddy, and I noticed running water coming down a gentle slope. I followed it and came to a spot in the middle of the house. I didn't know where it...
