Landscaping that I did not plan to do for a few more years.

I was planning on doing this work, just not this soon.

    Chainsaw oil

That is why I am asking. Would be nice to take them and use them up.

    Chainsaw oil

I never use used oil. It is old partial containers from what I have used elsewhere.

    Chainsaw oil

I didn't realize it was that thick.

    Chainsaw oil

Bar oil. Engine oil will always be a 2 stroke oil.

    Chainsaw oil

I know there is oil specific for chainsaws. If I have opened, new engine oil that I want to get rid of, are there any grades or types (synthetic) that I should not use?

Using a portable propane tank for my furnace

I have a propane furnace in my house. I realize that regulations may vary, but have you ever heard of it being legal to hookup a spot to connect a portable propane tank to a residential system that holds the 250 lb or bigger tanks? I am thinking more for emergencies.

Building a second floor on a multi addition house

Our single level house was built in 1930s. Since then at least 2 sections have been added making the house roughly square. We are considering doing an addition and are thinking of going up. The problem is the ceiling heights are not the same. Some are sloped with the roof slope. I do not want to...

    New power head

Mt weed whacker died. With it being time to replace it, I figured I'd go to one that you can swap the tools out. Bang for buck, which brand would you go with? I am in Canada, if that makes a difference.

    Dealing with annoying neighbour

I wish they weren't only enforced by complaints.

    Dealing with annoying neighbour

We have laws against unsightly properties. Once I find out who's it is, if it is theirs, they get told to do something, let me do something, or I call bylaw enforcement.

Landscaping that I did not plan to do for a few more years.

So, my new plan this year is to take the wood retaining wall down to where it stops bowing. Cut back the hill on a slope, matching the rest of the area, if not hallower, and then put sod down. That 4 foot wall now is 2 feet and should last a few more years till the transformation of that area...

    stair support

    Water spurts out of tap

I draw from a lake for my water. A few days ago, water spurted out my tap while the pump was running. It is still winter where I am so, for due diligence, I raised the heat trace temperature. Hasn't happened since. Any ideas what caused it?

Landscaping that I did not plan to do for a few more years.

I have a retaining wall that is about 4 feet high and about12feet long. It is made of garden ties. I have grand plans for it when we moved in 3 years ago. This winter, I am noticing the centre is pushing out.So, now those plans will have to be changed. My plan is to make it a waterfall. Due to...

    Dealing with annoying neighbour

Well, the good thing is, this fence likely won't be touched for a few more years. Along the fence is nothing but a retaining wall on their side. My side is level with the ground. Their side looks shabby. Mine actually looks nice. It is on the other side of their new fence where they made it look...

    Dealing with annoying neighbour

I have not gotten a survey... yet. As I understand, the old fence is on the property line, and their new fence is on their side. The problem with doing what they did is right by my front door, the fence is already within 4 feet of the door. Now it would be within 3 feet, and that would make...

    Dealing with annoying neighbour

What would you do? My neigbour has been here over 30 years. They are in their 70s. Their property looks good. We moved here about 3 years ago. In that time, I have been cleaning up the place. Our city has a free week at the dump every spring and fall, and that first one, I hauled 10 truckloads...

    Icicles from soffit?

We have lived in this house for 3 winters. It has a low sloped roof. The roofing material is metal. This year, I am noticing icicles coming from the soffit, as well as over the edge of the roof/eavestrough. As far as I can tell, there is no water penetration into the house. Why would I be...
