ok, I think I sort of under stand the idea of building a bulk head around it. I am a little unclear about insulating after. I will be using pink batt insulation. Wont that leave a large cavity behind the insulation where the pipes are located against the wall ?

Yes it's about a foot away from the corner of my mechanical room.
