    Any Sparkys around today??

Any idea what the white substance is? (it's there on almost all breakers)

    Conduit/raceway question

Running a feeder from my service panel to a sub panel in a new shed (50A (6 AGW) - ~100') Planning on using schedule 40 PVC conduit between the house and shed. 2 questions: 1) any code issues running CAT-5-6 (ethernet) cable in the same conduit? 2) Cable requirements - any reason not to use UF-B?

    Relocating Service Panel

(update, new direction, from a previous post, Jan 22') (background) House was built in the late 90's, 42 space (all used), 200A service located in basement. 10 yrs back we had an in-law suite added which included extending the basement. When the addition was added they put in an additional (16...

    Service panel for shed...

Pros/cons to using a main breaker (as opposed to a BOB) service panel for the new shed?

    Load bearing wall(s)

1.5 story Cape design, slab on grade home. Scouring the internet and not finding anything definitive on how to determine which (if any) interior walls are bearing. Floor plan attached, which only serves to muddy which one I would think "should be" load bearing...

    Voltage across 2 line feeds?

Working on a 240v (15A) circuit. Black to neutral = 121v, Red to neutral = 122v, Black to Red = 4.5v??? What am I missing - is this right? Why?

    Main/Sub Panel Replacement

Best practice question (not sure I want to know the answer ) Need to run (at least) 2 new circuits/subpanels - garage, shed. No open spaces on main service (200A) or subpanel. Picked up a 200A 42 BON QO panel and was going to replace the sub. Now I'm thinking that the new QO should...

    2022 Projects...

Figured I'd start one to see what everyone had planned for 2022 projects. Here are mine (in no particular order) Finish garage run electric (75' from service) garage heater Build (more likely, have someone install) 12' x 16' shed run electric (75' underground from service) Purchase &...

100 AMP Sub-Panel minimum wiring requirement

70' run from service panel. Am I reading the NEC correctly minimum #4 copper or #2 ALU?

    Conduit requirements

Anyone know the requirements (NEC chapter 3, I think) for when/where you must use conduit? Supplying a garage sub panel through basement (approx 65') and up into a 2 x 4 drywall cavity in the garage. (if it matters it's 2/3 NMB copper)

    Square D - Qwik-Grip Panels

Any one used either the HOM or QO version of these panels? Looks like a no-brainer for a replacement but did see a couple reviews that were not great.

    Need to upgrade (replace) a bolt-on-lug sub-panel

Short version... Need to update a bolt-on-lug sub-panel and would like to know if there is any reason (code wise? NEC 2014 in our area) not to replace it with a breaker sub panel? Currently the sub panel is directly adjacent to the main (see pics) and I can see why they didn't use a breaker...

Sub panel to sub panel OR Service panel to sub panel

Best practice suggestions... Adding a small electric heater to the garage and a circuit for general lighting and hand tool battery charging. Heater's spec is 7500W @ 240v (manufacture has max breaker size as 45A) and I can't imagine I'd need any more than a 20A circuit for everything else...

    Geometry sucks!

Good at math but geometry eludes me - algebra, no issues; figuring out a mitre angle, and I'm on the floor in a fetial position crying ! My go-to method has always been trial and error - little cuts until the joint works. But there has to be a better way?? Some, super secret, carpenter...

    Inherited a hot mess!

Took over a rehab and the electric piece seems to be straight up screwed. May or may not matter but let me preface by saying the home was originally wired aluminum. The service panel (Siemens) was replaced and inspected and it "appears" numerous legs were added/replaced with copper but most...
