    What did you do today?

We had the total eclipse about 30 minutes south of Buffalo Ny at about 3:18 EST , got so dark that street lights came on there was no traffic on the often busy road in front of my daughters house. After the dark minute, the horizon started to get bright fast , then in 5 minutes we were back to...

Smoke backflowing into home from fireplace

Any chance for pictures from the outside looking at the chimney? Which direction do the prevailing winds blow ? How far is the chimney from the ridge? Are you in a valley, wide open?

Garage GFCI shows 30 Vac Open Grd Neu...?

I’m not an electrician but I would start at the panel and work out. Pull off the panel cover and check voltage coming out of the breaker and move down the line from there. Remove the GFCI from the circuit and see what you get. Just my 2 cents.

The USA is hellbent on saving the world from pollution but in India , China and Russia they pollute like no tomorrow. We clean up our air and it blows their way and in return we get their polluted air.

The door switch will interrupt the cycle and stop the washer. Replace the switch and make sure the door latch holds the door shut .

Cloudy and muddy water from well after house plumbing work

I put in a 5 micron sediment filter and a 5 micron carbon block filter after my new well did the same thing for 2 weeks. Cost of about $200 far from $10k. I have clean clear water now and have been advised by the well driller not to pump it down to a point that it stirs up sediment. A long draw...

Trane XE90 Furnace Fails to Ignite

When the power vent turns on, put a lit cigarette or something that has some smoke to see if draws the smoke in . Maybe a problem with the power vent not opening fully to pull the gas over the igniter

Electric Dryer-Drum Rotates but no heat

Most likely these parts , most likely just the thermal fuse , but use a multimeter and check for continuity

Electric Dryer-Drum Rotates but no heat

Let’s not get way off in the weeds on this , take off the back of the dryer and you’ll see 2 small fuse like pieces like about 2 inches long , one is the high limit fuse and the other could be a fuse for the heating cycle. Happened to me years ago . Replace both usually come as a set . Less than...

    Concrete block basement wall cracks

Pretty much the same as what I did. Anchoring the bottom part of the beam to the floor would be easy , couldn’t do that because my floor was broken out to replace the sump pit and drainage pipe. Leaving only about 2 inches of concrete to anchor into , so I broke it out about an 8 inch square ...

    Concrete block basement wall cracks

I looked into the carbon fiber straps, would have cost me twice as much as the I beams and a few bags of concrete. What I didn’t like about the carbon strips is the wall where the strips would be glued in place had to be ground with diamond grinding wheels . I didn’t want the dust and I knew...

    Concrete block basement wall cracks

New to the forum but not new to this problem. I had a house with a block basement for 40 years, just sol it 2 years ago. The foundation had horizontal cracks mid way up the wall , 3 walls, the only wall that didn’t have cracks was the garage side . I had a contractor come in 40 years ago to cut...
