backer board not same thickness as drywall

Thanks for the reply. The backerboard I had put up was only 1/4". I made a trip to the local store as opposed to Lowe's and picked up 1/2" permabase and started the process of putting it up.

backer board not same thickness as drywall

I am still working on my bathroom, the problem is this: my backerboard is densguard. after installing a couple of sheets I got to my first joint of the densarmor plus drywall. They are different thicknesses. The drywall is thicker by 1/4 inch. Tear backerboard off and start over? don't...

tile to glass block window transition

I replaced an old window with glass blocks above where my tub will be. The window is 32wx24h and was actually fun putting it in though mortar can make a mess when used by a first-timer.:o I placed the window to where the outside was even with the sheathing, per installation instructions. I...

    drywall question

How about DensGuard? Apparently, I can't get DensShield around here. Are there advantages of cementboard that make up for the extra weight?

    assume these wires are safe?

Not that I can tell. The ones that are not cut square at the end, have a lot of mess so that I can't really tell.

    toilet area framing

Plumber says I need to reinforce the floor before I put the floor back in. The red line idicates where the joist would run had it not been cut out for plumbing. I was thinking a two 2x4's nailed together running from support "A" to "B" with a notch cut out for "C" where the joist would have...

    assume these wires are safe?

After finishing demo work, I had three sets of these in the wall. I assume these are old wires from when the previous owner had it rewired. Is that safe or do I need to call an electrician ro check them out? Thanks, Derek

    drywall question

Well, the walls are torn out, mostly, and the interior walls are in fine shape.:) I just decided to go ahead and remove all the drywall in the room. That will be easier that trying to tear off the three layers of junk on them now. I take it that green drywall is acceptable for the entire...

    tar paper? plastic?

Redoing my bathroom now. The previous owner apparently decided he did not like the hardwood floors so he stuck, linoleum on it, then particle board down on top of that, and then linoleum, then some more linoleum. In the bathroom. Picture here. After removing the floor up to the door, I...

    Mold Removal/Remediation

Thanks for the answer. I have a working fan but the previous owner did some strange things here. Found the bathroom floor/subfloor had been replaced once before. with partical board. Lotsa work ahead and I actually remembered to take before pictures. :)

    Mold Removal/Remediation

This may be a stupid question but I can't find the answer. I found some mold as I began tearing apart the bathroom. It was between the paneling and the sheetrock next to the tub. The wood behind the sheetrock looked clean, hard and dry. After taking out drywall, is there a set period of...

    vapor barrier

I found several posts about it that talk about the need for it (depending on where you live) but I can't find if I just overlap the different sheets or seal them together. I'm thinking seal because I read one response that indicated they were attached to the foundation and caulked. Can anyone...

    vapor barrier

Living in North Texas in a pier and beam house, should I have a vapor barrier on the ground? Right now it is exposed dirt. If I need one and choose to lay plastic sheeting down, do I need to seal the separate sheets together or just overlap them by some amount? I have to cut out the floor in...
