    Mortar Mixing Help

If it says just add water than the sand should be there. I googled type s quickcrete and it showed just the masonry cement witout sand. the consistancies i mentioned should be right. I personally would add a shovel of plain portland to a bag to give it some more umph. that permixed stuff...

    Mortar Mixing Help

Looks like that is not premixed with sand so you would have to add your own sand. Ok so maybe you know that. I always think of the consistancy like mashed potatoes. Fluffy, will stand up in a pile on it's own. For rock work like stiff mashed potatoes. I always add a shovel or two of straight...

    Static electricity and superstition.

Probably the case but the next time you know your going to get zapped, "Touch wood" Raising spirits could have more than one meaning. They had wooden shoes, maybe they had wooden mugs.:D I wonder what the ancients though of static electricity. It was probably more rare because of materials...

    Federal Breaker Box

I've always had FP panels replaced on my rental properties. For some reason I still have one on my own house. I've had numerous experiences with the breakers not tripping and on my particular model the cover can be easily , accidently, be placed on where the cover is holding and locking one...

    Mold Removal/Remediation

I'm with Craig. If you can't remove some mold yourself you can't do anything yourself. I've done a ton of it myself and I definitly have a negetive reaction to mold. Respirator and a spray bottle with some bleach to kill as much as possibe before I get in with scrapers etc. I'm certain some of...

    Static electricity and superstition.

Not a very good conductor but it can probably move around a few valance electrons. It's just my theory based on a slow day. I like the dryer sheet idea. Anything that would discharge electrons slowly I think would be the key. Touching the earth or the ground should discharge without a zap.

    Stone front porch

Stonework or brickwork structurally would be the same and there would be lots of ways to do it. In my area I start everything with a soils test/report because of our weird soils. No sense doing thousands of dollar worth of work to find it is moving around on you. I'd vote for a continuous...

    Static electricity and superstition.

Living in a dry cold climate I'm reasonably certain we get more static electricity from walking across carpet, etc, etc. Some of the things I do every day, I'm sure to get zapped on. I found, (and maybe someone told me or i read it somewhere), that if I touch wood first before i touch metal I...

    Snow on my dish.

Thanks WW. This morning there was snow on it but the storm ended and the signal was fine. Last night during the storm there was no reception until i brushed the snow off the dish. Then the snow would accumulate again on the dish until reception was out. Brushed it off and then we were back...

    Aluminum Foil Over Lightswitch

Hey thanks for the gret info on this site. My dish was down for a storm last night and I got to read a bunch of info here. Maybe I should just take down the dish. :D

    Snow on my dish.

Ok, I got the whole promo package and switched to direct tv with the dish. It's a cold snowy night with lots more comming. I'm up on the roof brushing snow off the dish every hour. What did I miss in the fine print?? Do they have a heated dish for extra $$$? Thanks.

    Inter-stud sized windows?

I like your thought process and it would seem doable to me. Lots of custom sized windows out there but in a casement it might be tricky being that small. Might think about a few wires and pipes in you way but I'm sure you can deal with that. Let us hear/ see how you progress.

    Basement floors.

Pardona Me. You need to be seeking advice specific to your area. I'm also in Colorado and would not think of giving advice on vapor barriers 50 ft away not to mention 2500 miles away. Soils/moisture are a funny thing and very unpredictable. Sounds like your doing your homework. Don't get in to...

    Corner bracing in balloon framing

Looks good to me. You probably have some electrical to go in there??? You might want to check that your header studs bear on sometning solid and not just on subfloor/plywood. Rock er up and put the window in unless you have an inspection?? Insulation? Looks like an interior wall.

    toilet tank leaking into bowl

New flapper?? They warp. I change the fill valve assembly or completely gut the whole thing and change out everything. Fluid master makes a kit for the full changeout or partial. I've been using their stuff on 17 rentals for years and have almost no complaints and if I did have a complaint I...

    Corner bracing in balloon framing

It looks good. I would probably have done a double jack/ trimmer /liner, under the header but what you have will probably go a thousand years or so. I would try to leave in the wind brace if I could but I doubt anthing will rack your structure. It looks pretty solid. Under the window. I'd go...

    Sill plate for large window

You can do it if you want too. I always try to work out my trim detail before i frame anything. It could work out to your advantage or disadvantage but I think you could get any look you want just going with the 2 2x4's and not be locked into creating something to work around your 2x6. Just rip...

    House water pressure over 100psi?

They make a pressue checker that connects to any hose bib. Probably a couple buck at the depot. I run my household pressure at 45 to 50 lbs. I have a few baseboard heat systems that are run at 10 psi. so the pressure is reduced twice. It would be interesting to know your sustained...
