HI Amber ... My daughter learned from me then got married. Her husband says "This is great! I go to work, come home and the house is remodeled!"
Seriously, there are a lot of things you can do to improve your place. Takes some learning curve, tools, patience with your fumbling around, and then you get to celebrate the success! Painting is easy ... graduate to minor electrical ... learn how to tile ... byt the end of the week, you will be an expert!
