New member, first post!
I recently moved into my "new" house. Having been built in 1910, all of the walls are plaster and lath. Oops - that's horsehair, plaster and lath. I'm just getting to thinking about preparing the walls for new paint, but I'm curious about what problems I might run into.
First - when does the wall need to be replaced? Is it just wait until it starts falling in chunks, or if it's getting soft?
Second - what to use to repair surface imperfections? Is a regular drywall compound ok, or should I be looking for something plaster-specific?
Any other tips would be appreciated as well. Thanks!!
