Is there a way to save my hardwood floors that won't look awkward?
We have an old farm house that had an addition put on it about 25 years ago.
We pulled up the carpet in the living room and the hardwood floors are in really good condition. However, they don't go all the way to the wall; they are about 9 inches shy. It looks like when the addition was done the original exterior wall was there or they had to cut out that much hardwood -not sure.
I've attached a photo. The dark wood is the hard wood, the light wood that runs parallel to it is covering the hardwood (it's about 15 inches) and the light wood that runs perpendicular is the section without any hardwood under it.
I've done a bit of searching and can't find any suggestions on how to address this. So, could I do tile or carpet or something else on a portion of the floor without it looking really weird?
Please and Thanks.
