Is it necessary that the deck should be attached to the house structure?
The backyard of my house is sloping by 45 degrees and instead of building a retaining wall and filling with dirt (to reclaim land) I thought of installing a deck with a fence on it. So that the neighbor would have his privacy.
Building a retaining wall is very expensive. The lowest quote I got so far is 30K. plus architects fee for drawing and approval.
I live in Queens, NY, Is it necessary to get city permit/approval for building such a deck.
