I need to buy a hand sander to finish off some cabinets I am refinishing.

Any insight into what brand I should go with would be very nice. I want to buy something that is going to last me awhile not some Walmart junk.

.02 from a new guy,

Bosch random orbit sander 1295 DVSK. It's small, like a good palm sander. Variable speed.

Porter Cable random orbit sander, I have the 7424 with a polishing bonnet. It's big like a side grinder. Fast material removal. Maybe not the best choice for sanding between coats of finish.

Tom in KY, I like them both.

The Porter Cable was $99.00 @ Lowes

The Bosch is 89.00

Makita has one similar to the Bosch for $65 through Amazon. 5" random orbit. It has a little dust collector box filter. I used one like it a few years ago, not a bad sander for finish work.

I'd go the P.C. for stripping and for finishing, use a high grit paper and a medium speed.

Tom in KY, O.K. I really like the P.C.

Our old DeWalts have been abused, I mean used 8-9 hours a day for the last 2 weeks. Finish sanding table tops for a casino. They keep cranking oround and round.

I agree with The Gingerbread Man. I have had the Dewalt DW421 for years and it just keeps on going. Random orbit sander using 5" hook and loop disks. The DW 423 is the VS model. The 421 sells for $69, the 423 for $89. Ace Hardware has the 421 on sale every so often for $49. Mick
