If your breaker is tripping, you probably have bigger problems than a broken ground. What does the switch control, a receptacle or a light? My guess is a nail was driven into the cable between the switch and the outlet, shorting hot to ground. There's a chance that the switch, light, or receptacle is bad, but those are more rare.
