I live in a city and do not have a septic tank. As far as I know all the sewage that leaves my home goes through city pipes.
In my basement, at the corner closest to the street in front of my home, there is a hole in the floor, I'd estimate it to be about 3' x 4' with pipes going into and out of it. My husband and I were noticing flies coming into the house from the basement and went to investigate, and found the hole full of sewage. It didn't smell too bad until it was stirred up when my husband used a long pipe to see how deep it was. There are maggots on the surface of the sewage.
We do not have a lot of money so our options are limited. What could be causing this problem, what do we do, who do we call, and how much would it cost to take care of this problem. Right now it's about a foot from the floor and we are worried about it spilling over.
Can anyone help?
