my wife and I are planning on putting new cedar siding on our home this summer and replaceing the the bricks we have now with either real or cultured stones.
the bricks we have now look like this (not the actual bricks but layed the same way)

we want to replace/cover them with stones that will look more like the stones on the this fireplace

my question how would you go about laying the new stones over the old ones?
what would be the steps and the best approach?
my father in law is a contractor but doesnt really work with stones - he mainly focus's on the interior of homes but he does know how to lay stone just doesnt really know how to get started on this.
