Default Distance between wire supports.

How far is it permissible for a wire to go between supports? Specifically, the trusses are two feet apart and Id like to run a wire diagonally across them. Stapled at each truss of course.
Also, Ive learned a good deal by reading this forum. Thanks to all who provide answers.
