Default Changing A Mantle Above The Fireplace

I have an 8 tier brick mantle that I want to remove. The fireplace is brick from floor to ceiling and does not extend past the ceiling. How do I remove just the mantle without damaging the rest of the fireplace. I want to replace with decorative mantle that would include installing a tv above.
