Default Best concrete tool for the job?

EDIT: Nevermind--it's now a Hardi backer job. Thanks.

I'm Tapcon anchoring lath to brick, bedding it with mortar and then tiling over. What kind of trowel(s) is best to apply the mortar bed to the lath? Here's a pic of the job site:

I have a 1/2x1/2x1/2 notch for the tile.
