Default Painting refaced kitchen cabinets

These cabinets have been refaced by Sears. The estimated age of the refacing was probably 15 or more years ago. We have been in the house only 6 1/2 years. What all needs to be done, except for a good degreasing, to prepare them for painting?

What are they made of? Red oak, Cherry, Mdf? and what kind of finish is on them Now? This makes a difference in preperation for painting.
