This is a long shot but could be an easy fix. If compressor vibrates at same frequency as wall, or a multiple (twice, triple, half, a third) or fraction (2 to 3, 2 to 5...) it can get REALLY loud. If it's a variable speed compressor (most new ones ARE), can you limit it to not hit the magic...
