    Chimney Crown Replacement Help

Curious to see what you'll be doing cause I have the same, although not as deteriorated (my house is from '78). Not much of an expert, but I would tend to agree the flue should protrude past the crown. I tend to make hand sketches and post them so people can understand without confusion what...

Questions for a foundation rehab job

I posted on another forum so if some of you guys are on both forums, dont feel obligated to reply on both of them ;) Hello! I am preparing a pretty big foundation rehab project that I intend to do this summer on my 45 years old house. The existing drain tile is pretty much done and concrete...

Cloudy and muddy water from well after house plumbing work

The system is still running at 1GPM from the bladder tank and water is still not perfectly clear.... Its much much better than it was on monday morning for sure but comparing with spring (bottled) water I can see a difference. I let a glass settle over last night and this morning I can...

Insulating a small room-closet in existing basement

Back at it after a few months dealing with other issues and life in general. I'm almost done stripping the existing room and managed to understand how to frame the walls and insulate the foundation walls.... However, before I buy everything (> $2000 CAD rupees) I made a quick sketch showing...

Cloudy and muddy water from well after house plumbing work

I believe the pump is in the well (its a Grundfos 10SQ05-160).

Cloudy and muddy water from well after house plumbing work

I would guess that when I shutoff the pump and opened up the circuit, I let air in, which let the water fall back to the bottom of the well (kinda like when you dip a straw in water, put your finger at the end of a straw, pull the straw then remove your finger, water will flow out of the straw)...

Cloudy and muddy water from well after house plumbing work

Hello, Last weekend we did some plumbing work on my house which is equipped with a water well (not sure about the depth but its not surface water). We started by stopping the well pump (breaker off) then proceeded to empty the system from the bladder (pressure) tank and faucets... After the...

Insulating a small room-closet in existing basement

Hello, I am in the process of converting a small storage room in my basement to a small closet for servers/IT equipment/telecom stuff. This closet is approx. 80sqft and is located between a family room and a mechanical room (sump pumps, hot water heater, water well pressure tank, septic tank...

    Popcorn ceiling - replacing drywall

Im surprised nobody has mentioned the risk of the stucco/mud containing asbestos, but I just had some lab testing done for my basement popcorn ceiling and results came back positive for chrysotile asbestos (<1%). House was built in '78. I will also be taking this out along with the actual...

Problem with foundations? What may be going on, and who to call?

Okay just hung up with a mason, they will come on monday to look at it, but at first glance its not good. They said that this looks like the former owners may have had issues with foundation cracks or lintel rusting out and cracking concrete due to swelling, and instead of doing a Proper repair...

Problem with foundations? What may be going on, and who to call?

    They're 2x10's... I measured them in the mech room, 9 1/2 high x 1 1/2" thick (wide)

Problem with foundations? What may be going on, and who to call?

The floor joists are probably about 25ft long because I measured about 23ft between finished basement walls. I can see them very well in the mechanical room (no ceiling) and they are oriented from the back to the front of the house (perpendicular to the damaged wall) and spaced at 16" c/c...

Problem with foundations? What may be going on, and who to call?

Hey @Sparky617 , yes its a poured foundation. The wall over the protrusion doesnt have any cracks, and floor in dining room is not sagging and windows are all operating normally (both dining room and basement). Hahaha that made me laugh ;) Will call a mason tomorrow, and see what they say...

Problem with foundations? What may be going on, and who to call?

Hey guys, I have two pressing foundation/masonry issues on a house I recently purchased (built in 1978). See attached a sketch of the frontage of the house, and some pics. First issue: During the inspection, we noticed a strange concrete protrusion right above a large 8ft basement window. The...
