    Keeping Cool

It's in the mid 90s up here. I leave my ac set to 72 during the day with the furnace fan set to on. Keeps the cool air flowing. I have a nice north exposure so sunlight isn't a big deal, but have blackout curtains on all my Windows except the kitchen.

    chimney leaks

Every time it rains with a slight wind, I can hear rain tinging inside my chimney. I took off the clean-out cover and maybe an ounce of water came out of it. After inspecting it, the rain is leaking from the upper pipe in the picture and dripping around the smaller pipe that the furnace and hot...

    Patching rough concrete

I was thinking of coating my concrete front steps. the cheap layer of concrete is peeling up and exposing the boulders they used as aggregate. Could I use Mortar or Thinset to lever this off, or should I go and get a cup of concrete from somewhere?

Weed Trimmer, Runs in START, dies in RUN

Well, that's the easy way... This is what the screwdriver looks like

Weed Trimmer, Runs in START, dies in RUN

The problem with the pliers is the screws are countersunk into the body of the carburetor. The screws go through a nylon plug moulded into the carb to keep them tight ant that makes it almost impossible to turn without the proper tool. I'll post a pic of the tool today.

Weed Trimmer, Runs in START, dies in RUN

no... Poulan used a splined screw for a while... more like a 4mm double square screw. I can't think if there's an alternative that a homeowner might have... Poulan was bought by "Electrolux Home Products" a while back. They also own "Husqvarna" if your local Husqvarna dealer is friendly enough...

Weed Trimmer, Runs in START, dies in RUN

if you replaced the carburetor, odds are it's not adjusted correctly. if it has 2 adjustment screws (marked H and L) gently turn them in all the way and then out 1 1/2 turns each. warm the engine up for about a minute before going to full throttle, then adjust the "H" screw until it runs good...

    ABS Pipe vs Air compressor?

I thought about the snake... the plumbing in my house was done by M. C. Escher, and has too many bends than is necessary, and probably travels about 40' before it even leaves the house  must have been an elbow sale at the hardware store that day. I ended up 'red-necking' up a fitting...

    ABS Pipe vs Air compressor?

My sump-pump hose runs about 8" below grade for a distance of 30'. either it's frozen or plugged with debris. If I brew-up some type of fitting, and connect my air compressor to the ABS pipe inside the house, how much pressure can I safely blow into it before i run the risk of damaging the pipe?

    Best faucet???

Hate to be "that guy" but they're all the same. It really comes down to looks. unless you are planning to spend $250+ on a kitchen faucet (I own a Kohler) you are going to get the same warranty and quality. Delta and Moen are great for the middle of the line, I have one of each, and I have a...

Request for solution to the hot second floor, cold basement challenge.

We just had our once-a-year heat wave... temperatures in the high 80's to low 100's. and for the first week of this, my a/c was running constantly, trying to get the house to 74. During the second week of it (average daytime high of 91 with a 85% humidity). I flipped the switch on my thermostat...

    Dimmer Switch

By master dimmer switch, do you mean a three-way dimmer? if so, I onse installed two three-way dimmers to the same light fixture. I then discovered, that they do not work that way, there has to be a standard three-way switch on the circuit
