Need Guidance About Having Panel Replaced/Upgraded

Wait, now you're confusing me!? If there is a loose connection in a wire nut or at a terminal wouldn't that cause an arch?

Need Guidance About Having Panel Replaced/Upgraded

Not saying they do - I was saying if that circuit was worked on, a GFCI/arch fault breaker should have been installed. (if it had, you are correct, it would have tripped and not reset) More to my point is that arch-fault breakers protect against this exact scenario.

Need Guidance About Having Panel Replaced/Upgraded

@Snoonyb, my point exactly! (if work was done on that circuit, an arch/fault/GFCI should have been installed, no??)

Need Guidance About Having Panel Replaced/Upgraded

Sparkys correct me if I’m wrong but, besides at least one of those needing a dedicated circuit, there should be an arch-fault/GFCI breaker used which would, most certainly, have tripped, with what you described?!

    Any Sparkys around today??

Hey @havasu - yea, the reason I was there. Definitely had water intrusion at some point but I could not locate the source and it was dry at the time of my inspection. Service panel update install, horrible work, bonding screw loose, never tightened!? Ground wires too short so they twisted 5...

Definitely not drywall, very hard, but flaking off on some of the breakers!?

    Any Sparkys around today??

Any idea what the white substance is? (it's there on almost all breakers)

Carpet installer asked me to install baseboards down to subfloor?

No standard sums it up. Sure you’ve been asked this but, why are you going over hardwood? If the installer is good they’ll go right up to your current baseboards with the tack strip, stretch, cut and it will look great!! No shoe moldings required. We do it all the time on rehabs where the...

Replace 220 V single outlet with 125 V double outlet on 40A circuit

@bud16415 is correct - I think it's NEC 210.8. Before I'd mess with the 220v, I'd just replace the GFCI with a duplex - either way you do it will be (in theory) out of compliance but that would be the easiest. Plus, hopefully its a 20A circuit (if it's yellow NM cable) and if so, you can use a...

    How to mount this motor?

Just spitballing here but, is there a chance the actually mounting flange is inside the motor? That top plate isn’t threaded but is there a internal mounting flange under that plate?

    Are breakers safer than fuses?

Did you say what that sub panel is feeding? To answer your 2nd question you may not have to upsize the feeder BUT you probably will, at the very least, run new NM to the new panel. Be a fun weekend project.
