    What you described implies a flat roof. Are you sure you don't have normal trusses and you are just looking at the bottom cord? That is an unbelievable span for a 2x5 (did you mean 2x6?), or even a 2x12.

    Thanks for the reply. "My builder" will be me. I am checking my plan w/ an engineer, who will also be the inspector; guaranteed inspection passing if I do what he says, or improve on it! He did not mention joining the foundation walls other than at the edges, but I am going to do that anyway...
