    grout question

Grout takes 3 DAYS to fully cure, not weeks. AquaMix makes a same day sealer. And there IS a difference between different sealers. There's some that last only a year and there's some with 15 yr warranties. I like using stuff that has warranty. Cheap sealer is no good. There have been cases of...

    Crappy tools

I bought a $15 grinder from Harbor Freight about 3 years ago, and the thing still runs strong. Sometimes cheap tools work magnificently. I bought a little 7" compact wet saw for $65. It looks like a table saw for cutting tile. It's great for small jobs. Don't have to lug a heavy wet saw...

    Leveling a basement slab...

You could have pumped out Self Leveling Compound and had a perfectly flat, and level surface to tile over.

    wood flooring in bathroom?

Wood is no good. Tile is in style. Ceramic tile or stone is by far the best floor covering solution for bathrooms. Has been for a long time. And you don't have to use concrete board, otherwise known as cementitious backerboard units. There is water-resistent underlayments, such as...

drain in fiberglass shower pan question

I wouldn't use that style of drain, with rubber gasket, in my shower pan. I'd buy a three piece drain that is threaded and screws together.

    Thoughts on cork flooring

Cork looks nice and is pretty durable. It's spongelike so messes get absorbed. It can last a while. There is a home older than 100 years old in the Newport, Rhode Island mansions district with cork in it. They have tours in several antique houses there.

    Quadrant tile installation

Use thinset and install. Use a wet saw for cuts, and miter on the corners. Is there a leak problem?

And if sealing, or resealing, use aquamix sealer, available at your better tile shops. It will last 15 years.

huge cracks in cocrete I want to put tile down can I

If the cracks are in-plane you can still tile over the slab. If the cracks are out of plane, or unlevel. Then you can't tile. I would suggest installing Ditra underlayment over the slab before tiling. This helps with expansion and contraction.

Now this is a one of a kind floor!

Very creative. I've seen it done before in a herringbone pattern. I like it. But wouldn't want it in my house. How was the grout composed? It looks like it screams maintenance. Looks like there was a good number of coats of poly on there.
