    new ceiling

since my first posting I've found out that I'm expected to finish the drywall also. Fun huh? Anyway, I have done small jobs but nothing this large. I'm not sure where to start the finishing. I'm guessing the ceiling. What is the progression in finishing a room?

    new ceiling

I'm replacing the stapled up ceiling in the basement with drywall. I want to sound proof it from upstairs because this will be a theater room. What should I use to do this that will also be compatible with recessed lights and not be a fire hazard? BTW I'm totally redoing the walls with drywall also.

replacing stapled ceiling with dry wall

I was advised to leave the furring strips that are nailed to the floor joists up. I don't want to nail dry wall to them. Am I wrong. They are perpendicular to the joists and only 1 1/4" anyway. Thats not much to nail the edges of the drywall. Also, the walls were constructe like this; furring...

    Leaking commode -underside of tank

Can you buy that part by itself or only in a repair kit? I don't remember seeing them. I would recommend turning off the supply and flushing the tank because if you take the supply line off, you could end up with 1.5- 5 gallons of water coming out of the tank.

    Septic tank options

Thanks for the advice. My tank is concrete. I have four lines leaving the distribution box. I live in the country and have room to extend the lines but the phone company ran new wire and it is near the end of the existing drain field. To go the other way, the land drops off quite a bit which...

    Septic tank options

If this is the wrong forum just direct me to the correct one. I would like to get some info on one's options concerning my system. This will sound like a lie but I moved into this home, which I had built, in September 1973. As of now I haven't had the septic tank pumped out. I just never gave it...

    sink question

I have a Kohler double porcelin white sink. Over the years, as careful as we can be, it still has acquired those little gray marks from pans. Is there a product to remove them? I tried the stuff we use on the cook top but it doesn't work.

    Application of sealant in winter...

I have a friend who's a plumber in Ohio. I visited him on the job once in mid winter and it was very cold. He was gluing up joints of PVC in the extreme cold. He had taken a cheap plastic tarp, you know the blue things you see at Lowe's, and had a kerosene heater blowing into it. If you can find...

    closet remodel

Hi, I'm new to the site so I hope I'm on the correct forum. We are considering opening up a corner closet in a small sitting room, previously a bedroom, to give it a more open feel. When I remodeled this room I didn't want to deal with removing the walls because of the work required to fix the...
