    What NOW!?

Plumber is coming Wednesday morning to give his opinion. I'm still not sure if I'd rather tear up the floor or move the wall(s).

    What NOW!?

Was going to replace my toilet. (The bolts that hole the tank to the base corroded through and were leaking.) I thought things were awry when I measured the rough-in at exactly 9" My home was built in '94 so my understanding is that it should be 12". So before going out to buy a...

Poorly Framed Door, Can it be fixed?

oops, I meant to the top of the door itself so I don't have to worry about putting a notch in the new wood. Eventually I'll have get a new door put in, but in the meantime I do want to seal as best I can.

Poorly Framed Door, Can it be fixed?

If the door is steel or fiberglass, can I still screw a piece of wood to the top of it without causing problems?

Poorly Framed Door, Can it be fixed?

You nailed it. I found that while I was looking at the current weatherstripping closer there is actually kerf-style on the hinge side UNDER the other weatherstripping. I picked up a strip of the nylon-covered kerf they carry at home depot to check it and *voila* it fits and does a much better...

Poorly Framed Door, Can it be fixed?

You are right. I went ahead and removed the seal on the bottom of the door and can see that the threshold is indeed not level. In order to move the left jamb, don't I need to also loosen the top and bottom? And for removing the trim, do I need to remove the inside and outside, or can I just...

Poorly Framed Door, Can it be fixed?

Now that it's starting to cool down here in TX, I set out to beef up the seal on the back door. I was having a hard time figuring out why I couldn't get it sealed when I stepped back and noticed... The top of the frame was built wrong. Both sides and the bottom are plum/level, but the top...

Watts Premier Hot Water Recirc Pump - Trial 1 - FAIL

Warning: If your water heater does not already have the screw-on fitting flex-pipes, the female fitting may be soldered to the water heater. If this is the case, do *not* buy this pump. I'm now researching some alternatives where the entire system mounts under the sink.

Watts Premier Hot Water Recirc Pump - Trial 1 - FAIL

Picked up my hot water recirculating pump last night to install today after lunch/dinner (or linner). I turned off the supply valve to the water heater & ran the sinks in the house, after 5 minutes they had slowed slightly but still had good pressure. I checked the supply valve by hand, it was...

    Dishwasher or Supplemental Water Heater?

There would be no advantage to running another line outside the kitchen wall since the dishwasher and heater are at opposite ends of the house. The dishwasher is near the northeast corner of the house and the heater is near the southwest corner of the house. Straight-shot the run is about...

    Dishwasher or Supplemental Water Heater?

Putting a hole through the exterior wall would not make the run any shorter. Straight-shot they two are about 120' apart with the dishwasher on the North wall and the heater near the south wall. I was talking to one of the guys up at HD who suggested this as a possible solution: WATTS Hot...

    Dishwasher or Supplemental Water Heater?

Earlier I talked to one of the fellas at HD who suggested one of these: WATTS Hot Water Recirculating Pump with Timer - 500800 at The Home Depot Anyone here have an opinion? It looks easier to install than the mini water heater and cheaper than the high-end dishwasher. I also like the timer...

    Dishwasher or Supplemental Water Heater?

Hello, I looked through some of the threads here and you look like a bright bunch, so here's my question. I have a very poor floorplan in my house, which results in the kitchen sink/dishwasher being caddy-corner from the water heater. The full run for the piping goes from the water heater...
