    pre-made built-ins?

does anyone know of a place that has ready-made built-ins (like bookcases, cabinets, that sort of thing)? Yep, looking for shortcuts, rather not make my own if ready-made is out there...for the right price... Ikea has one thing that might work for a spot between the studs (cheaper than I could...

    cork or bamboo in basement?

We have tiles based on that idea already, lol - alphabet tiles from the toy store - they are great, and actually cost less than the ones at that link. I'm about to Freecycle them now that my kids are bigger. But I'm thinking more adult-y (in spite of my already professed affinity for slides...

opening up a stairway in basement?

actually, the slide will go from the landing down to the right, if that makes sense - it's 5 ft up, so I can get one of those cool outdoor (rated to 250 lbs) ones & stick it right on. Can't believe my dh finally broke down & said ok! :p

opening up a stairway in basement?

but... the door needs to be behind where your chair is... because where you have the door, I'm putting in a slide. :D IMO, life is too short to ALWAYS take the stairs!

opening up a stairway in basement?

thanks for those workups, very cool! I could go nuts with that thing, I think! Yep, second one is what we're thinking...well, sort of - we'll put a little door there to get to the under-landing storage, and maybe spread the bottom stair or two out even further... and we'll have plenty of...

opening up a stairway in basement?

Well, here's what we did yesterday (I use the term "we" incredibly loosely here, since I did....well...nothing :p ). We'll keep the storage under the landing, but now it's soooo much more open, I'm getting excited thinking about what we'll end up doing with that space - and picking out a...

    cork or bamboo in basement?

No! You're just saying what my husband has been saying - but who listens to their husbands? :D Pergo's not organic, though, and the box even says it's good for basements.... so would it really be as "bad as wood"? Still looking for something softer than tile, but am a little low on...

    cork or bamboo in basement?

Thanks guys - seems like the exact discussion we're having over here - but point taken, why risk damage, etc... I guess maybe pergo & area rugs will be our route then (I really hate tile, it's so hard & cold!:o ) Thanks for helping with yet another decision!

    small shower?

thanks to you both - since we're not framed yet, we're going to try super-hard to eek out the extra couple of inches - can't change the floorplan too much, though, since we've already been permitted. The search for the perfect shower continues! Thanks again!

    cork or bamboo in basement?

Has anyone used cork or bamboo flooring in their finished basement? I hear it's not recommended (nor any "wood" floors)... Thanks!

    small shower?

Hi! We're putting a bathroom in our basement as we finish it, and have a TINY bathroom to work with. Has anyone got (or showered in ;) ) a 32 inch shower stall? Is it a reasonable size (ie can real humans actually use it, or does it feel like the shower on a boat?) Any ideas for showers in...

opening up a stairway in basement?

Hi! We've begun finishing our basement, and are looking for ideas (and photos, since I have a bad imagination) if you have any for the stairwell. We're thinking of doing storage under the landing & lower set of stairs, but under the higher set of stairs, taking out the framing to open up the...
