It's a nice floor, other than the notches and some pretty large chunks missing in some places. Can they be filled in? With what? And then the whole thing sanded and refinished?

Bad sections can be cut out and replaced.
I do a whole run not just a short piece.
It looks like cheap pine flooring, not hardwood.
Any real flooring guy could do these repairs in about an hour.
Once done the whole floor most likely would need to be sanded and refinished to get it all to match.
 
Yeah in my opinion the floor doesn't look like hardwood. I'd have a flooring professional come and fix the areas that are damaged. Once it's sanded down and has some refinish on it, it should look as good as new.
 
Not sure if that is pine or maple. Need to find out before it is patched.
