    new ceiling

    I'm replacing the stapled up ceiling in the basement with drywall. I want to sound proof it from upstairs because this will be a theater room. What should I use to do this that will also be compatible with recessed lights and not be a fire hazard? BTW I'm totally redoing the walls with drywall also.

    I was advised to leave the furring strips that are nailed to the floor joists up. I don't want to nail dry wall to them. Am I wrong. They are perpendicular to the joists and only 1 1/4" anyway.     I have a Kohler double porcelin white sink. Over the years, as careful as we can be, it still has acquired those little gray marks from pans. Is there a product to remove them? I tried the stuff we use on the cook top but it doesn't work.
