Reparing small section of rotted exterior wooden panel trim/sil

Okay, thanks. I will keep this mind if in the future I need to rip out of the patch repair and replace the entire bottom trim. You mentioned that if the entire panel is a single piece, I would be running a loss game. Unfortunately, I think the entire panel is a single piece, would replacing...

Reparing small section of rotted exterior wooden panel trim/sil

It does, but it is in a very slight U shape. So I don't think water would actually flow out even without the caulking there. They either get absorbed by the wood or flow into the space between brick veneer and sheathing. Not sure if it is due to age, settling, or installation error (probably the...

Reparing small section of rotted exterior wooden panel trim/sil

Not sure what you mean by the z flashing. Do you mean the area that's under the window? That might be a bit out of scope and my skill set currently. Can that portion be redone separately at a later date? I did cut out the yellow area, figured the epoxy is bit too messy to use and hard to remove...

Reparing small section of rotted exterior wooden panel trim/sil

Okay, thanks for the input, will definitely keep it in mind if I ever have to replace that entire panel down the road. The house was build in the 60s, and I think the entire panel was original. Just few more questions if yo don't mind. 1. For the holes in the vinyl j-channel beneath the...

Completed Sanding, two questions before applying urethane finish.

I actually tried a damp cloth, it was, not good. It made the bare wood which has been sanded smooth rough up again, and left a visible mark due to expansion of the bare wood when exposed to water. Had to re-sand that area with a 100 grit paper. Do people really use damp cloth with bare wood?

Completed Sanding, two questions before applying urethane finish.

Hello. After two days of hardwork, I completed sanding the hardwood floor with the a rented U-Sand. Going to apply the Minwax water based oil modified finish. Not going to stain. However, before I begin I have two questions which I'm still not very sure about. 1. There are some small spots...

Install Quarter Round when there is large gap underneath the baseboard?

Thanks everyone. I think I will stuff some splinter woods under the gap, get one of those bigger shoe moulds and then just nail the mould into the floor at a 45 degree angle.

Install Quarter Round when there is large gap underneath the baseboard?

Thank you, but what's the quarter round method? Do I just get a tall shoe mould and then nail the shoe mould to the floor instead of the baseboard? For me the house was previously a rental and I don't think the carpet has been cleaned in years. I mostly ripped it out not for the hardwood...

Install Quarter Round when there is large gap underneath the baseboard?

Hello. I recently purchased a house and ripped out all the carpets (so I can refinish the hardwood floor underneath). I noticed is that the gaps underneath the Baseboard for two walls are fairly big. The biggest spots are 1/2 inch to 11/16th of an inch. While the quarter mould would cover...

Accidently drilled into wood support while drilling for window brackets

Hello. Need some advice in this area. I was installing a windows bracket and I accidentally drilled a small hole into the wood support behind the dry wall (above the first floor window and right below the ceiling ). No idea where the hole is located in relation to the supporting wood beam, but...

Hello, this thing in my basement started buzzing today and I couldn't figure out why it is doing it and what it is. It is located in my basement enclosed in a plastic cap, and as far as I can tell the buzzing is from the two black boxes from the side. It appears to have a switch in the switch...

Wet rot treatment, does the damaged spot must be removed?

Hello, due to the previously leaking roof, there is a small area in my fascia that ended up going through some wet rot. As far as I can tell the new roof has fixed the dampness issue and the area is now very dry, and will stay that way for the foreseeable future. Now the problem is due to the...

Is Drip edge needed in this situation?

Hello, recently I have just installed the new architectural shingles (40 years), and the contractor did not include drip edge. His reasoning was that since the shingle overhang is between 3/4th of an inch to 1.5 inches, and since my roof slope is fairly steep, a drip edge is not really...
