Advice on Framing vs Siding Nailer

I agree with Snoonyb. Screw work well for framing, and often the thud of the hammer (or framing nailer) shake things loose if the house is old-ish. The siding nailer will probably get more use on this project. Maybe just rent one from the local Home Depot.

Metal Drain Pipe very close to proposed outlet. Anything to be aware of?

I wouldn't do it. You will be leaving a "ticking time bomb" in the wall. The fact that the other two instances have not caused trouble yet is merely a matter of luck. I would not want that potential problem in my home and I would not want to leave it there for the next occupant. There is no...

    Results of Sewer Line Scope

I tried home shopping from a distance. I couldn't do it. We lived in New Jersey and my daughter lives in Pittsburgh. When we decided to move out here, we would come out for a weekend and look at whatever houses were available. With available time being short and repeat visits being next to...

Small condo's R22 CentralAC repair or replacement options-any advice!?

Glad it worked out for your buddy. Drugs and alcohol don't have much to do with it. Mostly it's just greed. And maybe a boat payment or two.

Metal Drain Pipe very close to proposed outlet. Anything to be aware of?

The whole point of the box is to protect the outlet. And also to contain any sparks/arcing/etc. that can occur with any electrical wiring. If you "cut the outlet box" what kind of protection does it serve? Are you suggesting that you leave the back of the box open? Add to that a location below a...

Samsung dryer, does this sound like idler or drum roller?

It may have developed a little corrosion from sitting idle (😏) for some time. It might go away on it's own....if you don't mind waiting.

    security cameras home construction site

I hope you were able to preserve those. There are many ways to save old movies...once you can find a place that will transfer them. I have my father's 16mm films that date back to the 1940s.

    Construction cardboard?

I'm not sure that identifying the old material is too important. After all, it didn't stop animals before, so I wouldn't want to try it again.

Smoke backflowing into home from fireplace

I had a wood burning fireplace for 30+ years in my previous house. Loved it. I didn't mind splitting firewood (but I was younger then). In my new house I have a gas insert and I have to admit, it's nice to flip a switch and poof! looks good too.

Help, what is a Firming liquid for turn of the century crumbling mortar!?

Often, folks didn't use a brick jointer (mortar jointer) to smooth the mortar. That rough finish also adds to an aged look

Help, what is a Firming liquid for turn of the century crumbling mortar!?

What makes you think the mortar in restaurants is original? You could probably add a little ash (or something) to new mortar and it will look aged.

    What did you do today?

most dryers I've seen have a knockout on either side designed to put a 4" vent though, in case you don't have the clearance behind the machine.
