What am I missing - Hardiebacker?

I want to put up Hardiebacker (cement board) on the walls of my shower room. I can only find 3x5 panels to purchase - which do not match 16" centered studs - every panel would need to be cut and pieced together. They make 4x8 panels, but no one around here seems to carry them. Is cement board...

    Bringing in underground wire

I have an underground 12-2 cable that feeds the well from a temporary pole. The pole will be removed soon, so I need to bring the cable into the service panel. This cable is not in a conduit. I can drill a hole thru the wall* and run a conduit from xx inches below ground level to a 90 degree...

    Hard lesson to learn

Here is one link, but there are others on Google. Popular Woodworking - SawStop Safety System Saga Steams Forward Be careful of all the "facts" that are posted on comments about the case, sawstop, the inventor, etc. Lots of emotion is being posted and all the facts are not in yet (as far as I...

    Hard lesson to learn

I have a Sawstop. If it trips, you replace the brake cartridge (~$65), and probably the blade (unless you get it repaired). Well worth the cost of my fingers. You can also test material before cutting to reduce accidental trips. I have not seen reports of lots of accidental trips, so I assume...

    Additional weight on Truss

I have a shop and tractor shed that are pole buildings with Truss roof. I want to know how much weight I can safely hang from the bottom (joist?) of the truss. I don't want to pull an engine block, but may have needs to hang things from time to time. I have the spec for my Truss, but I...

    American Idol

I see they are going to have Adam Lambert as a mentor for next week. That should prove to be an interesting show. From the comments on recent web articles, you either "idolize" him (pun intended) or hope he gets run over by a bus . With all his controversy, it should be a ratings booster.

    Can I install recessed lighting???

One other comment about the recessed light fixtures. Some are rated for having insulation over them - and others are not. Be sure to get the ones that match your situation.

How to mount meter panel to metal wall

I am building a shop - pole building with metal roof and sides. Ready to mount the meter panel to the outside of the building to bring in power. I have the information from the power company on placement, but I don't know the best way to mount to the sheet metal wall. Can I just run long...

How to butt 4 walls together?

Ok - an update, some clarification and a picture should help... Originally, I was thinking of 4 independent walls to build, stand up, and tie together in the corners. Was not sure how to put the corners together. You can see the green walls and a purple door outline. Now, I think I...

How to butt 4 walls together?

I need to put up walls for a bathroom in my shop. I can build the 4 walls, but is there a preferred or required layout for butting the walls together at the corners? 2 opposite walls inside the other 2 walls, or overlap each corner differently, or ?? Also, the sewer (stack?) pipe is sticking...

    My Plan

I have recently purchased 54 wooded acres. I have pushed in a driveway and cleared an area for tractor shed, shop, and future home. The shed is up, the shop (Pole building with concrete floor) is up, and I plan to finish out the inside of the shop myself - to learn how to do as much of the house...

    Glueing bottom plate to concrete?

Got a reply back from Liquid Nails: Hi, thank you for your interest in LIQUID NAILS. To frame walls, the use of adhesive reduces the number of (rather than eliminate the need for) nails/screws. We recommend using LIQUID NAILS HEAVY DUTY CONSTRUCTION ADHESIVE in conjunction with...

    Glueing bottom plate to concrete?

? Isn't that what glue does - get dry and harden? I am assuming the weight of the lumber will hold it down, and the nail/glue keeps the wall from moving laterally. Maybe I am wrong. (I was wrong once before :D ) I guess I am looking for some tried and tested reason that glue...

    Glueing bottom plate to concrete?

Just poured a concrete floor in my new shop, and the concrete guy suggested using glue to attach the bottom plate of interior rooms I plan to build - instead of shooting nails or drilling for screws. (I have always used nails before) A got a couple of hits using search, but nothing recent. Is...

    Hey
