Jerry rig broken AC drain line

Thanks, that's really smart. However I would then have a larger jerry rig to run the external drain tubing up to that point. But I'll certainly keep it in mind.

Jerry rig broken AC drain line

Noticed the air handler was leaking water, but filter was good and drain line was not blocked. AC guy opened it up and found plastic slot--drain line holder-- in inside pan had snapped. (Probably stepped on by spray foam contractors.) AC is 25 years old, and is a bit dirty inside--and some black...

Tiny junction boxes for alarm wiring

Thanks for the replies. Attached is a photo which may make it clearer. I could easily chop out the smaller, now invisible tie above but after this nice new foam job I am loathe to do that. See my plan. the Box could be taped or caulked into place.

Tiny junction boxes for alarm wiring

Just had my attic spray foamed. The cellular alarm communicator had been attached near the peak; prior to foaming I attached a small collar tie near the peak to re-attach it later, but underestimated the amount of spray foam, which now covers it. Rather than chopping into that and losing some...

    Inserting Flat File Drawers

actually the cabinets are brand new and are empty, but they are heavy even in that state and to get drawers in you have to extend them out from your arms which puts great strain on your back.

    Inserting Flat File Drawers

These are Sandusky Lee 5 drawer flat files. In speaking with the company I was advised that keeping the lock rod in the up position is the answer to getting that problematic third drawer in, meaning that given the rod has a half inch or so bit of play in it, when the cabinet is in the upright...

    Inserting Flat File Drawers

We just got two cabinets of 5-drawer flat files; had to remove four of the five drawers in order to move units. All the drawers went back in easy except the third (middle) one, which was the hardest to get out. Does anyone know the trick with this? Both the drawer and the cabinet slot have a...

Is this a 60 or 45 degree miter cut?

Thanks. Just a final question that just occurs to me: if I find I can't re-use the old nails, do I need to use galvanized nails to install the new pieced of treated wood? And drill narrow pilot holes or just hammer them in?

Is this a 60 or 45 degree miter cut?

Thanks. I guess after I remove the old piece, I could just put it on top of the new piece and line them up and pencil in the cut line on both ends.

Is this a 60 or 45 degree miter cut?

See photo. I have to remove the larger piece (where the arrow is on top of) and miter box cut it to fit the smaller piece at the point of the arrow's tip. Looking at it I can't tell what angle cut it is. I know usually it would be two 45s, but for some reason the angle cut on the narrower piece...

    double key deadbolt lock stuck

when we're home we keep a key in it.

    double key deadbolt lock stuck

Thanks. Right you are it was an Arrow. I couldn't turn the key but key was removable. Turned out when the locksmith opened everything up that a small piece inside had broken from metal fatigue over the years, so had to replace the odd-sized latch.

    double key deadbolt lock stuck

Thanks, when I turn the lock partway, those holes open up and I was able to tighten the screws but to no avail. But I'll try this with someone else on the other side of the door to hold the lock and make sure it's not turning as I'm turning the key. Not sure if that's how I fixed it last time. I...

    double key deadbolt lock stuck

Hi, I have a 16 year old double-key deadbolt lock on my front door, don't know brand. See attached photo. A few years ago it got stuck--key is not stuck in lock but it won't turn enough to open door. At that time the locksmith talked me through it. It had something to do with aligning the two...

    gurgling house trap

While it's still not clear why the house trap plug loosened before sewage backed up into the slop sink, we'll assume it wasn't on tight to begin with. Ultimately, it's the same story: roots clogging up the line. Tech came and put a four-inch blade in and cleared it up. When I saw the prices...

    gurgling house trap

for the last few weeks have heard sounds of water rushing through trap in basement. today, it was gurgling as well. removed trap plate, found the house side plug open--therefore the noise-- and a little sewage in the pit. this was during a washing machine cycle; gurgling seems to come at the end...

Best choice to replace basement awning windows

Yes I'll take out that mulch in the spring--retains too much humidity, replace it with gravel. And at some point have to repitch the land so it goes down from not up to the foundation. No water problems inside but still a good idea. How do they install windows where you live?

Best choice to replace basement awning windows

Finished job a few weeks ago. Went with Andersen 400-AW251-V Vinyl clad terratone exterior/prefinished white interior, no grilles, Low e with Argon, traditional folding handle, color white. Contractor was very thorough, removed old woodwork, used spray foam, caulk and fiberglass to insulate...

    Attaching plywood to fireplace

Update. we're all done except for some sanding, caulking and priming/painting. We're happy with the results. It's always good to have a few sets of eyes on projects as its ongoing so that you don't rush through proofing if everything is level and plumb. We had to do a few corrections on the...

    Attaching plywood to fireplace

Thanks, yes sometimes when a question arises once the job has started I have to make a decision really quickly since the contractor's clock is ticking. I generally throw a few questions out to a few sites--this being one of the best--and usually answers come in quickly but sometimes I have move...
