Leak at PVC Sprinkler T Joint

If the tee connection is glued, replacement is the only permanent fix.

Setting cast iron tub in place?

Steven, most the tubs I have installed were in new homes and the studs were all that were there. We attached the flanges on the tub edges to the studs. I admit that many were fiberglass or plastic, but see no difference in cast iron tubs. The only problem I wondered about was bringing the wall...

    Venting basement washroom???

You need to check your area Code for vent sizing. Since you are in Canada, I am not knowledgeable of your codes.

Setting cast iron tub in place?

The tub "should have" flanges around the edges that get secured to the wall. You may need to shim out the wall(s) to get a tight fit.

    water heater discharge pipe

Most of the piping I have seen is required to terminate into a French Drain. This is to prevent anyone from getting scalded by a sudden gush of hot water.

what to look for in a new toilet

I want functionality. Since I am not using it as a long term seating situation, I just want it to work. With the exception of height, most toilet "comfort" is achieved by the seat, most of which will fit any brand toilet. If you live near a Home Depot, go to their plumbing section and look at...

    Waste-water drain

Standard is 1/4" per foot for pipe sizes under 6". Over 6" it drops to 1/8" per foot.

    American Plumbing different than Canadian??

Only difference I can think of would be the piping diameter. Could be metric sizing. Adapters are available.

    Tub removal/replacement Q

Cutting or smashing the old tub is fine, but will not help with the installation of the new unit.

    Tub removal/replacement Q

Good luck with this project. If the tub length is "wall to wall", it will be all but impossible to stand it up for removal. Betting it was installed before the wall with the door was.

    need outside spigot

For the age of the house, the plumbing is probably galvanized steel or copper. Many areas do not allow PVC anymore and some do. Some also have made a requirement of CPVC, which used to be the code for hot water lines. If any piping has been changed during the other renovations, this is where I...

Gas Water Heater Turns On & Off All Day!

Sounds like a bad thermostat or sensor. The unit should only kick on when the water temperature goes below a certain temp.

    Gurgling sound

How much "remodeling" was done? Were pipes moved or replaced? If the toilet drain pipe was moved or replaced, it may have not been reconnected to the vent pipe. This will cause gurgling and the sound is caused by the drain pipe sucking air out of other fixture traps. Drain piping needs venting...

    Clueless

Washing machines put out a lot more water when draing than most people think. The newer models have even higher flow pumps, and this is why the Code for washer drain piping was increased to 2" from the old 1-1/2" size. There is a clog somewhere in the main drain. I have never seen a Plumber use...

How to tell which basement floor drains drain to septic?

The septic lid would need to be removed. Then colored water (special mixture) could be poured down each drain and determine if the water is going to the septic. Could also be done with a pipe test plug and an air connection.

    need replacement garbage disposal

I have always been a fan of Insinkerator disposals. Heavy duty and powerful. I have not heard of any complaints for them.

new cast iron sink with formica counter

The formica is a thin covering. What matters is the wood under it. With the old sink removed, you should see at least 3/4" of wood. Sink should not be a problem.

sulfer smell in upstairs bathroom sink

Since the original poster hasn't been back since late October, I assume the problem was fixed. It would really be nice if those helped through this site would let us know what happened in the end.

Trying to get estimates for remodeling my basement

Speedbump hit on another organization that gets way too much credit, and does little for the consumer. BBB, primarily, only monitors their "members". Not that this will actually help the homeowner.
